The bad... Spry "Speed" survivor Annie Porter (Bullock) can't seem to escape maniacal terrorists, as she discovers soon after boarding a posh luxury liner with her engagement-minded boyfriend, Alex. The bad news is that the disgruntled--and recently fired--mastermind behind the ship's electronic control systems wants revenge against the ship's management, so he sets the ship on a collision course with such deadly targets as an offshore oil tanker. The good news is that Alex has been training on the sly with an elite LAPD SWAT team, so the plucky pair resolves to save their fellow passengers. [More]

A pedestrian thriller that never captures the thrill of the first, and even more criminally sidelines Bullock.

A witless, charmless actioner that even Bullock has distanced herself from -- and by the time it reaches the just plain silly finale, it isn't hard to see why.

Dafoe's take on Dennis Hopper's Hopper impersonation is plain pointless; Bullock too is wasted in a ditzy half-role; and Patric is unsmiling and resolutely uncharismatic.

This film is less of a sequel and more of a carbon copy.

Sixty minutes of poorly photographed rescue attempts sum up the substance of the movie.

This is the kind of movie that Chuck Norris would have made 15 years ago, except there would be two dozen bad guys and plenty more excitement.

A waterlogged sequel that'll soon be bottom-feeding with Beyond the Poseidon Adventure.

Cruise control indeed, as in slow and phoned-in, coasting by on what is passed off as thrills.

Movies like this embrace goofiness with an almost sensual pleasure. And so, on a warm summer evening, do I.

If Speed 2 and let's say, Kissed, a dark comedy about a woman necrophile, were the very last two movies at the video store, I would pick Kissed.

Bullock and Patric seem to be extremely good sports, given how little they have to work with (the film is clever, but strangely unengaging).

Speed 2 finds director De Bont and actor Bullock too content to coast on automatic.

This one is so chaotic that it's hard to believe it was directed by Jan De Bont, even though he is perhaps to blame more than anyone else for the corruption of this genre.

What a reeking bag of nothingness! What emptiness, what vaporous vapidity! What rot, stink, and whiff of mold spore!

The fact that the rescue process inadvertently kills off more people than it saves tends to lessen the tension by utterly devaluing human life.
