The bad... Spry "Speed" survivor Annie Porter (Bullock) can't seem to escape maniacal terrorists, as she discovers soon after boarding a posh luxury liner with her engagement-minded boyfriend, Alex. The bad news is that the disgruntled--and recently fired--mastermind behind the ship's electronic control systems wants revenge against the ship's management, so he sets the ship on a collision course with such deadly targets as an offshore oil tanker. The good news is that Alex has been training on the sly with an elite LAPD SWAT team, so the plucky pair resolves to save their fellow passengers. [More]

De Bont botches nearly all opportunities for suspense.

The fact that the rescue process inadvertently kills off more people than it saves tends to lessen the tension by utterly devaluing human life.

Se 'Twister' era um insulto, 'Velocidade Máxima 2' é uma tentativa de homicídio.

This time I found myself contemplating how far into a bay a huge cruise ship could actually go before it ran aground in the sand, instead of watching De Bont's plot unfold.

Jan deBont could make an ice cream truck tootling down your street look exciting...[but] grab some popcorn and try and invent a drinking game based on the silliness.

Bullock, who has a sly and wonderful way of bringing wit and charm to every project she's associated with, is relegated to little more than a bystander.

Even the film's big-ticket closing stunts are more impressive for their size than for any excitement they generate.

I hope that somewhere Keanu Reeves is laughing about being considered a nonactor while the wax dummy Jason Patric has somehow achieved a rep as intense and gifted.

This one is so chaotic that it's hard to believe it was directed by Jan De Bont, even though he is perhaps to blame more than anyone else for the corruption of this genre.

Bullock and Patric seem to be extremely good sports, given how little they have to work with (the film is clever, but strangely unengaging).
