If you're a regular reader here at RT, you may have noticed my fondness for the live-action adaptation Speed Racer --- a textbook "love it or hate it" movie from the Wachowski brothers that split critics and audiences alike this summer. Well, the time has come, friends. That's right...Speed Racer is on Blu-ray!

Warner Bros. is releasing the fizzy-pop CG extravaganza on DVD and Blu-ray this week, and we couldn't be more excited. (It would be an understatement to recommend you watch it in high definition.) The best part about snagging Speed Racer on DVD or Blu-ray: repeat viewings, so that your eyeballs and your senses can soak in every bit of digital wonder without being completely overwhelmed.

Emile Hirsch stars as Speed, the hotshot titular racer who takes on the corrupt world of professional racing with his family (John Goodman, Susan Sarandon), his girlfriend (Christina Ricci), and his car (the Mach 5) by his side. Only a pair of extra features appear on the release: a set tour by young cast member Paulie Litt (sans monkey) and a faux documentary about the stars and technology within Speed Racer's fictional racing circuit. I'm getting Speed Racer blu tomorrow, it wasn't the greatest flick, but it will be pretty slick in HD. Also getting Risky Business on blu and considering The Mist, not sure on that one yet. The Max Ophuls trilogy on Criterion DVD is in the mail.

Agreed, Speed Racer was cool even though it drag a few times and and it felt repetitive one or twice, still a very cool movie that I look forward to receiving on Blu-Ray tomorrow.

I'm will definitely rent Southland Tales to listen to the commentary track, but I will hold out to buy the inevitable Director's Cut. I have come to like it quite a but after multiple viewings. LOL I am definitely gonna wait for the GRINDHOUSE box set there gonna release on Blu Ray. 88 Minutes was god awful and I will wait to see how bad The Love Guru is when its on MAX. I will probably get Shawshank on Blu Ray.

I really liked Spped Racer and it's gonna look glorious on blu-ray. I'm so gonna pick that up tomorrow. My Number 1 guilty pleasure of 2008 is The Love Guru. I don't know why but I enjoyed it a lot. Defintely staying away from 88 Minutes and pacino's giant, puffy hairdo.

I can't wait for Speed Racer, I'm holding a big movie night tomorrow to help spread it's awesomeness to the masses. Pretty excited about the release fo Grindhouse but i already own the DVDs and am anxious for the Box Set, along with The Whole Bloody Affair.

Speed Racer: The New Cult Classic. Wow that was fast.

And I'll be buying The Go-Getter (which you guys just so happen to not mention, I'm sure it was just a mistake) because it was godly. And that Kabluey thingy looks cool.

Agreed, I think Speed Racer will do great on video, too many people had mixed feelings and I bet they told themselves they are going to rent it.

Speedracer was such a fun movie, can't wait to get that on Blu Ray, it will probably attack the eyes though. I am sure Speed will become a cult movie it was too much fun just to disappear forever.

I saw it in IMAX, and it melted my eyeballs. In a good way. I'll buy it on BD and sit really close to the TV, in an attempt to relive the experience :)

I loved Pushing Daisys! Quirky and morbidly fun. The cast shines, especially when Kriston Chenowith (who got the nickname "trunk monkey" in one episode) gets a song. My favorite version of Hopelessly devoted to you, ever!

Like any movie that deals with the evils of capitalism, the critics loved to hate it.

In the end however, the fans are the ones that will fork over their cash to buy it on DVD (or blu-ray for those of you who aren't crippled by the recession like me), and in the end its the fans who will get to enjoy a movie as awesome as this one. This is the case of seeing this movie is not a choice, you *have* to see it at least once.

I also agree that it will do well on video. You will have everyone who loved it, like me, buying it today or this week. Plus, all the people who will regret not seeing it on the big screen after they receive it from their various online renters. I wish this would have done better, but oh well. The Wachowski brothers will hopefully keep making movie magic. Go Speed Racer Go!!

If there's ever been a "guilty pleasure" it's The Love Guru. You really don't want to admit you enjoyed it, but I'd be lying if I said Mike Meyers didn't make me (and the 12 other people in the theater) laugh out loud the whole way through.

Of course the best laugh was an outtake they put in during the credits. There's a shot in a locker room with the hockey team and all the characters. We can see all of Verne Troyer (aka Mini-Me from Austin Powers), but everybody else stops at the waist. You hear the director (or somebody) say, "Can we change the framing, all I can see is a$$es", to which Verne replies, "Welcome to my world"
