Box Office Guru Wrapup: "Pirates" #1, "Knocked Up" Strong #2
Summary
Disney still claimed the most popular film in the land with "Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End" despite a drop that was sizable even by tentpole standards. Universal generated a stronger than expected debut for its new adult comedy "Knocked Up" which pushed its way into the runnerup spot sending Shrek the Third down to third in weekend number three. on Jun 03 2007 05:05 PM Poor Pirates! Boo hoo! ;) (Reply to this) |
on Jun 03 2007 05:26 PM In reply to this comment (#867739) $625 million worldwide in 11 days and projections of it reaching $900 million by the end of its run and you say Boo who? The movie almost put me to sleep, but no doubt Disney is boo hooing all the way to the bank with those numbers. (Reply to this) |

on Jun 03 2007 06:11 PM I liked Pirates 3... (Reply to this) |
on Jun 03 2007 06:39 PM That isn`t a very good opening for Day Watch. Shame. I was really hoping it would open well. As for pirates, who cares. nobody is going bankrupt there. (Reply to this) |
on Jun 03 2007 07:06 PM In reply to this comment (#867740) its called sarcasm, but still, that was quite a fall. (Reply to this) |
![]() on Jun 03 2007 07:25 PM In reply to this comment (#867742) Actually, that's a pretty good haul for Day Watch considering that it was only in 5 theaters. (Reply to this) |
on Jun 03 2007 07:43 PM Yeah Daywatch really did pretty well. Not quite sure if I liked Nightwatch. It seemed like it should be pretty good, but I had no idea what the hell was going on for most of the movie. I think I had a bad translation. (Reply to this) |
on Jun 03 2007 09:37 PM ya, with $9,265 per theatre, Day Watch was close behind Knocked Up in per-theatre average. That's pretty damn good for a foreign sci-fi/action flick. (Reply to this) |

on Jun 04 2007 12:22 AM In reply to this comment (#867743) I'm so sick of people trying to be so sarcastic you can't even tell. If people don't get the sarcasm it's because you're not doing it right!!!! Sorry BatSpidey, not a personal attack on you alone, you're just like the 30th person I've heard on this site have to point out that your comment was sarcastic. (Reply to this) |
on Jun 04 2007 03:20 AM In reply to this comment (#867747) No harm, I'll try harder. (Reply to this) |
on Jun 04 2007 04:01 AM In reply to this comment (#867748) Sorry man, it was probably my male menopause taking over. Either that or my agent orange was acting up again. (Reply to this) |
on Jun 04 2007 04:21 AM Looks like Knocked Up has almost made back it's budget in it's opening weekend. Congrats! It was a very strong movie :) (Reply to this) |
on Jun 04 2007 04:58 AM Am I dreaming, or did you just call "Norbit" a hit? (Reply to this) |
on Jun 04 2007 07:07 AM You know, interestingly enough, Spiderman is actually outgrossing Pirates at the domestic boxoffice. Internationally, I can't speak to, but I'll be suprised if Spiderman 3 ends up being the highest grossing film this year. (Reply to this) |
![]() on Jun 04 2007 07:23 AM Bug is a flop, huh? Good. (Reply to this) |
on Jun 04 2007 07:45 AM I hope Day watch gets a decent release so I can see it in theaters. Knocked up deserves all the success it gets. Wonderful film. Transformers will own Spiderman 3!!! or it might not...whatever. But on another note, with these two film series out now we can get the spiderman transformers crossover movie!!!! (Reply to this) |
on Jun 04 2007 08:06 AM Transformers WILL kick spiderman 3's ass. Not opening weekend...but probably over time...I mean you'll have a lot of kids going to see it...and little kids with their parents...then again the same can be said for Spiderman. I guess it all depends on the suckage. But I think Knocked Up will do what Wedding Crashers and the 40 year old virgin did. Sneak they're way up to the top. Wedding Crashers made the same amount when it came out...and I heard pretty much the same thing I've been hearing for Knocked Up...that it was amazing...but...Knocked Up was better...so I'm rooting for that....yay... (Reply to this) |
on Jun 04 2007 08:29 AM I saw Mr. Brooks which was a pretty solid film, not outstanding but something definitely worth seeing. It had some sweet moments to it, a couple flaws but hopefully it holds up allright and doesn't just get killed in the weeks ahead. I still really want to see Knocked Up. (Reply to this) |
on Jun 04 2007 09:39 AM I think Harry Potter has a legitimate chance of becoming the highest grossing movie this year. I bet it finished somewhere in the high 300million range. I don't see transformers doing that type of business. If anything outgrosses Spiderman 3, it'll be Harry Potter. Especially with the last book coming out (coincidence? Doubtful) (Reply to this) |
on Jun 04 2007 10:07 AM In reply to this comment (#867743) Okay, reading it again, I can see the sarcasim ... Borderline though :) (Reply to this) |
on Jun 04 2007 11:03 AM This is crap if anyone knows anything about movies, the best wide released film of 2007 Knocked Up should be at the top. It was one of the films that both met and exceeded my expectations, unlike Spidey 3 and Shrek the Third. I think it will stay around number 2 for awhile if people aren't completely tasteless or offended. Jesus they all saw Norbit and Wild Hogs, @$^#ing retards. Pirates 3 is a scam. I haven't seen Mr. Brooks but I think it looks a hell of a lot more interesting than Shrek the Third. (Reply to this) |
on Jun 04 2007 12:22 PM Sorry, but I doubt Day Watch will be a big "snowball" hit like Little Miss Sunshine and Pan`s Labyrinth, and like Once will be. I`m afraid a 9,000 average does not dictate huge demand and the film may only receive a modest amount of theatres, none of which will be near me because my theatres suck. If it had an average of like 15k to 30k, we`d be golden. (Reply to this) |
![]() on Jun 04 2007 01:26 PM Transformers will not beat Spider-Man 3. Not even close. Spider-Man 3 is a lot more broadly appealing, and Transformers will probably just end up being another bang-bang-boom movie with no plot or character anyhow (with Michael Bay directing it's a pretty safe bet). (Reply to this) |
on Jun 04 2007 06:39 PM I totally forgot about Harry Potter. It might take the gold. (Reply to this) |
on Jun 04 2007 09:11 PM In reply to this comment (#867751) GRD, Norbit was a boxoffice hit. (Reply to this) |
on Jun 05 2007 12:05 PM In reply to this comment (#867763) Good Lord. I had no idea. I'd heard it bad-mouthed so much, I guess I just automatically assumed it was a flop. Never assume anything, I guess. (Reply to this) |
