Consensus: A kinetic and fun movie that's sure to thrill children of all ages.

Runtime: 88 mins

Genre: Action/Adventure

When the notorious husband-and-wife spy team Gregorio and Ingrid Cortez (Antonio Banderas and Carla Gugino) is kidnapped by the evil Fegan Floop (Alan Cumming), the two Cortez children are the only ones who have the right skills and the insider know-how to help. Together Carmen and Juni Cortez (Alexa Vega and Daryl Sabara) set out on their first spy mission to find Floop and rescue their parents. SPY KIDS is a high-wire family adventure that lets the kids save the day. Though director Robert Rodriguez was previously best known for violent action films like DESPERADO and FROM DUSK TILL DAWN, here he creates family-friendly fare that still shows elements of his trademark energy. SPY KIDS was followed by SPY KIDS 2: ISLAND OF LOST DREAMS and SPY KIDS 3-D: GAME OVER. [More]

A fine, relatively non-violent example of pure family entertainment.

Even the biggest skeptics of the 'kids as super spies' conceit will likely find themselves looking forward to the already-in-the-works sequel.

"The family that spies together, stays together. That's the homespun philosophy behind htis rousing fantasy/adventure."

Eccentrically over-the-top in the same style as Willy Wonka.

Perfectly silly escapist fun for kiddies that won't bore their parents too much.

A good live-action children's movie -- a species so rare that many presumed it extinct.

A turgid adventure tale caught somewhere between family comedy and spy spoof.

Good, but not great from a critical and overall filmmaking standpoint, the film will nevertheless probably prove to be quite enjoyable to its target audience.

It's entertaining and inoffensive, a rare combination in kids' films, which are usually neither.

Spy Kids may not be as cool as it wants to be, and it may not become the cult item it is aiming at, and the special effects may be even cheesier than the plot calls for, but it doesn't lack for imagination.

A virtual eruption of special effects and sorcery, borrows a little here and a little there from a lot of espionage thrillers, which may amuse parents.
