In SPY KIDS 3D: GAME OVER, state-of-the-art digital 3D technology puts something special into special effects action for the whole family. On their latest assignment, under-age agents Juni and Carmen Cortez (DARYL SABARA and ALEXA VEGA) journey inside the virtual reality world of a cool but crazy video game, where anything is possible, including the impossible. Action film veteran Sylvester Stallone joins the cast as the power-hungry villain the ‘Toymaker,’ who wants to take over the youth of the world, and Juni and Carmen must battle their way through tougher and tougher levels of a three-dimensional game ingeniously designed to outwit and defeat them. Using their usual humor, gadgetry, bravery and family bonds, the Spy Kids must win every high-flying, puzzle-solving challenge, from racing road warriors to surfing on boiling lava. Meanwhile, high-definition digital 3-D sequences and special viewing glasses give the audience a chance to interact with the largerthan-life excitement on screen. Adding to the visual fun, SPY KIDS 3D: GAME OVER also features all-new inventions from the mind of writer/director Robert Rodriguez, who lets his imagination loose in a blazingly colorful, futuristic game world come to life. In this latest chapter of the SPY KIDS trilogy, Antonio Banderas and Carla Gugino reprise their roles as suave spy-parents Gregorio and Ingrid Cortez and Ricardo Montalban makes a comeback as the Spy Kids’ grandfather, who plays a pivotal role in their mission. Also returning are Steve Buscemi as the mad scientist Romero; Alan Cumming as Floop; Bill Paxton as Dinky Winks; Cheech Marin as Uncle Felix; and Danny Trejo as Uncle Machete. [More]

It's The Matrix meets TRON meets Jimmy Neutron, with all the cheery (if not cheesy) evanescence of a Jolly Rancher commercial. I mean that as a compliment.

Watching Juni and Carmen dodge enemies and jump from platform to platform is about as fun as watching someone else play videogames.

While the visuals have gained a dimension, the story has lost one.

It's the gimmick that sells. This movie without 3-D would be three times more boring.

The special effects may be in 3-D, but the story is flat, and there is very little of the quirky humor of the first two.

The silly sensation is fun, even for victims of the short-lived 1980s 3-D revival of Comin’ at Ya! and Jaws 3-D.

Eye-candy, but fun. No down time, but had some trouble with the 3-D.

...something between `Tron' and `The Matrix,' though with a cheery warmth in place of the chilly dysphoria.

While it is easily the least of the three films and not quite as focused or ingenious as the previous installments, it still has an endless amount of creativity behind it and while kids will eat it up without question, there is enough ingenuity to provide

While inferior to its predecessors, the third Spy Kids is the first 3-D movie able to hold its own as a 2-D film.

As sheer dumb spectacle, Spy Kids 3-D isn't wholly without merit. Too bad Rodriguez can no longer be bothered to offer family audiences more than that.

Rodriguez's DIY monomania ... is laudable in theory, but in SK3D he may have unwittingly found a twin in the Toymaker, trapped in his own creation.
