Consensus: Containing more of what made the Star Wars series fun, Attack of the Clones is an improvement over The Phantom Menace.

Runtime: 2 hrs 22 mins

Genre: Science-Fiction/Fantasy

Synopsis: In the second installment of the Star Wars series, EPISODE II--ATTACK OF THE CLONES, Anakin Skywalker (Hayden Christensen) is now a teenage Jedi apprentice to Obi-Wan Kenobi (Ewan McGregor).... In the second installment of the Star Wars series, EPISODE II--ATTACK OF THE CLONES, Anakin Skywalker (Hayden Christensen) is now a teenage Jedi apprentice to Obi-Wan Kenobi (Ewan McGregor). Together they must protect Senator Padme Amidala (Natalie Portman) from a militant group of political activists that is trying to assassinate her. This group is led by the evil Count Dooku (Christopher Lee). Among other troubles, Anakin faces some hard choices as he begins to fall for Padme, knowing this love is forbidden by the Jedi knights' creed. In addition, Anakin begins to show his rebellious attraction to the dark side--which will eventually conquer him, when he becomes the future Darth Vader. The story is set 10 years after STAR WARS EPISODE I: THE PHANTOM MENACE, and there are appearances by some of PHANTOM's characters, including Jar Jar Binks. CLONES also brings back familiar faces from the original STAR WARS: the lovable droids R2D2 and C3PO, and Yoda, who plays a key role in this film. Lucas creates an impressive array of beautifully rendered alien planets and beings, sleek spaceships, and dazzling effects; he remains at the head of the class in terms of technical ability and visual imagination. The film's climactic final sequences show the magic with which CLONES' earns its place as part of the beloved STAR WARS series. [More]

Wonder, hope and magic can never escape the heart of the boy when the right movie comes along, especially if it begins with the name of Star Wars

Its screenplay serves as auto-critique, and its clumsiness as its own most damning censure.

I'm tempted to quote an evergreen Public Enemy song: don't believe the hype.

It's all about Anakin ... and the lustrous polished visuals rich in color and creativity and, of course, special effect.

...as the story congeals you feel the pieces of the Star Wars saga falling into place in a way that makes your spine tingle with revelation and excitement.

Other than McGregor, who continues to cut a dashing figure as the sagacious Jedi, the movie is plagued by bad acting.

Nothing more than a decent action flick with great effects and a silly story that happens to be blessed by a very good pedigree.

Move over Spidey, George Lucas is bringing out a sci-fi movie with a little more gravitas to knock you off your perch.

Here we are again: not entertained, not nearly enough, by an installment of the Star Wars epic that, for the first time, exhibits symptoms of... nerves.

Here's the good news: the latest toy from George Lucas's soulless Star Wars factory is better than The Phantom Menace. Now the bad: it's not much better.

Impeccable visuals, intriguing characters, awesome action sequences, a surprising romance and a generally more "adult" feel..

While the film is clearly a step up from Menace, it still has its weak points.

At the end, when the now computerized Yoda finally reveals his martial artistry, the film ascends to a kinetic life so teeming that even cranky adults may rediscover the quivering kid inside.
