Underhill writes: on May 21 2005 05:11 PM Well I wouldn't go so far as to say best in the saga. Not with the dialogue in this movie. Best of new trilogy? Absolutely. And being the last movie, I'm not surprised people are turning out in droves. Heck, I'm seeing it for the second time tomorrow. It also helped that Lucas made the action scenes so fast and confusing that you almost have to see the movie multiple times to pick everything up. (Reply to this) |

There was sooooo much cheese in this film, you could have spread it on toast. May the for... Oh God I'm going to be sick... (Reply to this) |

jeremyd4 writes: on May 22 2005 01:43 AM The movie was definately good - I figured it was always going to be.... but the whole time I was watching it I was always wanting just that little bit more; or for it to be executed a little better. There was far too much cheese and not enough exposition (i.e. Why do the clone troopers carry out that order when instructed to do??). The cheese was mainly due to the acting - I wanted Anakin to be more convincing in the way he got tempted by the dark side. It wasn't like it seduced him, he just well, went along with it after one pivotal scene occured... meh. That whole scene with Mace, Palpatine and Anakin, the acting is so bad and takes away all the impact it could've had. Don't get me started on the NOOOOOOOOO cried out by Darth Vader as soon as he is transformed.... There were a lot of cringe worthy moments like this in the film. There was too much comic relief in the beginning as well, which I hate, when the droids act stupid it's just crap. Other than this... the movie was top stuff!! Now we'll just have to wait for the remakes of the whole saga to begin, in say, another 10 years time or so. (Reply to this) |

Hefe writes: on May 22 2005 05:13 AM In reply to this comment (#822345) NNOOOO Moment Yes that was so ridiculous the way Darth Vader screamed NOOOO! What happened to the dramatic and thrilling character moments of the OT, like when Luke finds out that Vader is his father and cries NNOOOOOO! Now that's great writing. Oh wait..... (Reply to this) |

ieatfood54491 writes: on May 22 2005 06:52 PM the noooo was not the worst of the dialogue The worst part of dialogue, in my opinion, was the "Don't you see, the Emperor is evil!" "Well from my point of view the Jedi are evil!" I was laughing so much after that. (Reply to this) |

jeremyd4 writes: on May 23 2005 01:23 AM Yeah I had a problem with that line too. I hate it in movies when people lose all ability to explain themselves. That line was so dumb and like having two 5yr olds arguing without thinking - the "well from my point of view.." is what screws it up! On top of this, the fact Anakin actually knew why the Jedi were out to get Palpatine and that they weren't evil, and that it was more him simply protecting his interests by keeping Palpatine around... well, it just makes my eyes roll back into my head when he all of a sudden seems to forget what's been going on when yelling at Obi-wan.... ccchhhrrriiisss writes: on May 24 2005 07:50 AM Dialogue was not that bad... I've seen some Oscar nominated films that had "realistic" dialogue that really left alot to be desired. This film is sci-fi. If you go back to the critically praised original trilogy, you have to laugh at some of the dialogue by Harrison Ford or Carrie Fisher. But it's part of the experience. This film is definitely my favorite of the prequels. And it rightfully ranks up there with the original trilogy. Its definitely better than Return of the Jedi. It is probably more emotionally involving as The Empire Strikes Back. The only hindsight that I can offer is that the entire series of prequels lacked one very important piece that would have put it on par with the original trilogy: It lacked a Han Solo type of wit. Han Solo's sarcastic, disbelieving character in Star Wars and The Empire Strikes Back were crucial to the acceptability of the films. The prequels offered no character who doubted "the existence of some all-powerful and all-knowing Force." This was probably Lucas' intention, since the Jedi were well known throughout the Galaxy, and a "doubter" would have looked ridiculous. But as awesome as Jedi are, they have the personalities of well-meaning Catholic priests. Thus, it would have been great to have had one character with the wit and charm of a mercenary or scoundrel who has been "redeemed" by the "Force." If such a character had been added, I doubt that the prequels would have been critically panned. But I still enjoyed Revenge of the Sith. Its been a long time since a sci fi film moved me emotionally. This film did that. (Reply to this) |

jeremyd4 writes: on May 25 2005 02:31 AM Since the movie was mainly about Anakin's transformation into Darth Vader, the dialogue did need to be more credible, and the acting did need to go up a few more notches, because it didn't make you feel anything. I wanted to care that Anakin went ape and killed children and that he was the reason for Padme's demise... but I just didn't. As you say, the movie needed a character like Han Solo... but that's kinda my point too, the new movies needed some cool characters that could delivered on what they promised - Jar Jar was a failure. Han Solo's dialogue could've be cheesy too but Harrison always managed to pull it off and make it "cool". The story and idea behind the new trilogy was right but I just think the way the characters were played out was almost lazy and not believable. (Reply to this) |
