Lucas Discusses New "Star Wars" Series and (Briefly) "Indiana Jones 4"
Seems that whenever George Lucas opens his mouth, there's someone there to record what he has to say -- even when he's not actually saying a whole lot. This time around he's talking about next year's new "Clone Wars" cartoon -- plus he's nice enough to toss in a little bread crumb for the "Indiana Jones" fans.
From the AP Newswire: "The wars aren't over for "Star Wars" creator George Lucas. Lucas said Wednesday he's making an animated TV series of "Clone Wars" that could air next year, although he hasn't sold the show to a network yet. The series is set during the time when the Republic is fighting a civil war against separatists led by Count Dooku.
The mythic period hasn't been dealt with too much in the popular "Star Wars" movies, so "it's a fun place to go," Lucas said.
"It basically has all the main characters" such as Anakin Skywalker and Obi-Wan Kenobi, Lucas said, but the stars who played them in the movies won't voice them for the TV show.
"There's nobody famous," Lucas told The Associated Press in a telephone interview.
The show is planned as a continuation of the Emmy-winning "Clone Wars" that aired in 25 episodes on the Cartoon Network from 2003 to 2005. That series used limited animation. The new version will use 3-D computer graphics.
It's one of many projects being pursued by Lucas, including a fourth "Indiana Jones" movie.
"We're working on it. We haven't agreed on a script yet," Lucas said."

Mikeal420 writes: on Oct 06 2006 12:50 PM In reply to this comment (#845936) I think people post on this site because they love movies and it's the most enjoyable site on the web about movies, not because they lack a life-- why did you post your little comment to begin with!!! (I'm sitting in class right now, using this site to pass some time as I usually do) Also hate is a strong word-- I'd rather just call Lucas an untalented hack-- I used to respect him for his special effects, but a friend informed me (just gossip, not confirmed) that he barely even works on visual effects, he has always hired others out to do them within his studio-- if this is true that means not only does he rip his stories off from old western's and Kirosowa films ( as well as science fiction books), he is not even capable of the little creativity I thought he had (he is a brilliant business man though!!) I Am Remote writes: on Oct 06 2006 01:16 PM No, I like Lucas too. I am not, however a big fan of the Clone Wars cartoons. They look cool, alright, but the action is all so over the top, it just doesn't seem like Star Wars. Plus, what are they going to do with the characters and continuity. In Ep. III it's known that Anakin and Obiwan have yet to catch up with Grievous and Dooku, so now in this new series, they'll never be in the same frame anyway. I have a feeling it's going to breed more and more cool-looking but very disposable characters without adding much to the overall saga arc. (Reply to this) |

donkeytron writes: on Oct 06 2006 02:42 PM In reply to this comment (#845941) Grossly exaggerated? How so? I thought it was the best piece of Star Wars fiction in a long time and the animation was perfect. I can't wait to see what comes of this new one. (Reply to this) |

I Am Remote writes: on Oct 06 2006 06:53 PM In reply to this comment (#845943) It's very grossly exaggerated. The force powers, which are generally tastefully handled in the movies (especially the OT) are completely out of control in these cartoons. It's basically using a Star Wars template to animate action sequences. They're fun to watch, but I don't get that "star wars" feel from them. They don't even feel like the prequels. I'll check this series out though. (Reply to this) |

If that's the case, what do you care what he does and why are you wasting your time reading about him? Try reading a book instead, well, at least one with pretty pictures to brighten your dull life. Missileman writes: on Oct 06 2006 08:20 PM I dont't even know George Lucas, so how could I love him or hate him? However, I do enjoy a lot of his films, I think he'd probably agree that some have been a lot better than others. (not to name names) I really hope that Indy 4 is great, the team that is working on it *has* turned out some excellent films, so it's totally possible. :) (Reply to this) |

dagreenman18 writes: on Oct 07 2006 11:53 AM i don't hate lucas, im just so dissapointed in him. all that potential, just to end up a hack director that sells out his bet licence to the highest bidder. where's the old George? the george that brought us the first Star wars all thoes years ago? whre's the guy who brought us Indy and ability to shut his eyes to save himself from the ark of the covanent (sic). now we have this super geek who thinks the prequels where a good idea. and another thing, who's bright idea was it to changa the Clone Wars animation to 3D. if you don't think this is a bad idea i got 3 word for you: Jar Jar Binks. TheIceGhost writes: on Oct 08 2006 11:44 PM The guy has done GREAT work as a director. No, not Star Wars; American Graffiti. Is his stuff good now-a-days? Well, he's raking in a heluva amount of money so, he's doing something right. His stuff has entertained me for years, and that's the bottom line. Who cares if he's 'a hack' or 'has no talent'. I got into an arguement last week over John Williams being 'a hack' and a guy who blatantly rips people off. But at the end of the day, I like the stuff he makes, so who cares how he gets there? How do you think politicians get where they are? Playing nice? HAH! I liked the cartoon, esp. the last 5 episodes. This is pretty old news though, don't see what the hoopla is about. Saw this same article on yahoo's main page. I would think the fact that theyre making a live action star wars tv show would be a bigger deal than a cartoon, guess that's just me. (Reply to this) |

Racer Z writes: on Oct 09 2006 09:36 AM The hating of George Lucas stems from one thing: jealousy. "Plain and simple." The man is an undeniable success, which of course makes him a huge target for detractors. All you haters think you can make better movies? You're welcome to try. Or should I say "do, or do not?" The fact that you seem to spend a lot of time hammering on a man YOU DON'T EVEN KNOW shows you've accomplished very little with your own existence. For crying out loud, LIGHTEN UP FOLKS!! And maybe just try and have a little fun once in a while. At the very least, go crawl back into your little holes and let other people enjoy GL's films. I’m sick to death of all your whining.
