Trailer Bulletin: The Slick New "Clone Wars" Series!
by Scott Weinberg | May 29, 2007
Blog Article | Discuss Article
We've been hearing about this half-hour animated "Clone Wars" series since right about the time that "Revenge of the Sith" hit the theaters. Now here's a trailer.

Click right here to check out the "Star Wars" fun. Although the show looks to be premiering this fall, we still don't know which network it'll play on! Weird. Fans with good ears will notice that Frank Oz, Anthony Daniels, and Matthew Wood will be reprising their roles from the movies. (Well, their voices will, anyway.)

On top of that it looks pretty slick. Lotsa action. (Looks like the new "Clone Wars" is not related to the shorts that are presently available on DVD, but those ones are really cool.)

Looks pretty good. The initial artwork looked bad.

Will this be a 'real' series or another 5 minute episode style thing?

The art is based off the Clone Wars TV series art, which was by Gendy Tartakovsky of Dexter's Lab iirc.

Honestly I wasn't a fan of the art in the CWTV but the action kinda had me stop thinking about it.

Despite it being official Star Wars...
It looks a bit lame.

Lame and unnecessary, since we already have a movie or two telling us what happens after this series.

At least we'll get to see some of the other Jedi in action, and there's no Hayden Christensen (or Natalie Portman, for that matter).

Just out of curiosity, I'd like to know who's playing the voice of Asajj Ventress.

But, but...
So, it's an "extended remake" of the cartoon series? But, um, I already know what happens. I know what happens with these characters, either in that series' storyline or in Episode III. I didn't see anything new! Why didn't I see anything new? New characters would be nice - ones whose fate I don't already know. One of the reasons I really liked the Clone Trooper Commando Unit bits in the cartoon was that I had no idea what would happen to them.

Is this another one of those "we don't need no stinking story, look, it's Yoda!" moments? I'll check it out, but my excitement level went way down. :-(

i think it's safe to say that it will be a 100x more enjoyable than the prequels but that ain't sayin much...

trailer does look really cool though.

We also had 3 movies telling us what happens after episode 3.

It looks pretty cool, but why make a series about something when there is already a series which does the job well? Like, what's the point in having another Clone Wars series when we have already been told what happens? Plus, it would have been nice to get lifelike CGI animation and not a cartoony animation this time around.

Who are you kidding? This looks great!
Hello, Star Wars fanboys. This is what you have been waiting for, an extended look at the clone wars. The animation looks great, the action looks intense, and it actually looks like there's some real storylines in there. I am wicked excited about seeing this. I wonder what network is going to pick this up.

And we didn't watch the prequels b/c we didn't know what happenned, Anakin falls to dark side and turns into Darth Vader, we watched to see how and why and what led up to it. The same goes for the Clone Wars. Relax and enjoy.

Good job, George.

As long as this isn't as awful as the prequels, and has even a hint of the greatness of the other Clone Wars series (which has now been referred to as more of a test run), then I'm looking forward to it. Hopefully Lucas won't be writing too much for it.

I think the series looks pretty sick. I'm pretty pumped to check it out. I don't know anything about the old series they had and the only knowledge I have of the clone wars is from the movies, which didn't go super in depth like this show will. The action looks really good too, which is enough for me to want to check out.

Can't agree with you more. It does LOOK great. They ALL look great. These days, LOOKING great is easier than BEING great. Just take a look at all the underwhelming part threes out there this summer.

But was anybody waiting for an extended look at the clone wars...? Not me. Not when there are so many potentially interesting storylines to tap into out there. How about....

1) Han Solo and Chewie pre-episode IV
2) Bail Organa's rebel efforts pre-episode IV, with Leia as a minor child character in the background eventually coming of age and joining the fight?
3) The further rise of the Empire post-episode III?
4) Are there any other Jedis in hiding out there? Can't just be 2 of them in an entire galaxy, can there?
5) Two words... Boba Fett.

C'mon. War is boring. Stuff goes BOOM. Then more stuff goes BOOM. Yeah, I'll still watch it. t'll be enjoyable and I'll dig it and my kid's will dig it and it'll be fun. But it's like a big delicious candy bar. It is sooooo good while you are enjoying it, but it has no long-term nutritional value. Just empty calories that eventually just make you sleepy.

But the time frame between Episode III and IV offers up like 20 years of material there!

And don't say "the live-action series will take care of that." The live-action series should take place 30 years after Episode VI. Everyone will have aged correctly and they can focus on Leia's supposed twins she has with Han, Luke as the new Yoda, a new Sith uprising, etc. etc. You know, extend the story past The Teddy Bear Picnic.

For what it's worth I loved the art style of the cartoons, and if they are going to ape the cartoons in a CGI version then I'm glad they are aping that look as well.

But it just seems like they are being lazy about it. And that made me more than a little disappointed. I'm not entirely knocking what we're going to get. I'm sure it will be great for what it is. But I just wish it was something different. Something more interesting than stuff going BOOM..

This has been... one fan-boy's opinion.

The time era you're referring to is going to be the basis of the live-action TV series that's still a couple years away. Not to worry my friend.

The animation hurts my eyes. Was a new Clone Wars animated series really all that necessary? Why couldn't they just continue the Old Clone Wars. Genndy Tartakovsky original is freaking gorgeous and is the only good thing that came from the prequels. now they are going to taint the name with this hideous stepchild. Seriously, why the fuck does Padme look like a man, Yoda look like a gremlin after it's been feed after midnight, and Anikin look like shit? This is what happens when Lucas gets involved.

"This is what happens when Lucas gets involved"

and your argument is based on what evidence?

why is it that whenever there's a project without the involvement of the original creator, every fanboy freaks out about how it's an outrage. but God forbid the man who created the most successful movie series of all time get involved with his own projects...

We need a new flagship sci fi series. One not constrained by a timeline rigid with 30 years of material. Star Wars is the Empire now... what will be the Rebellion?
