So Who's Gonna Play Thor, Anyway?
Triple H, Kevin McKidd singing "Me So Thor-ny"?

As we discussed a week ago, Stardust director Matthew Vaughn is gearing up to bring Marvel Comics' Thor to the big screen. With a writers' strike looming, the production team is trying to get the project done sooner than later, which is why the casting rumors are already coming fast and furious -- and IGN Movies (via CHUD and IESB) brings us word of not one, but two actors who could potentially play the hammer-wielding hero.

First, from CHUD, comes word of the studio's rumored choice for the role:

Marvel wants wrestler Triple H to play the god of thunder, while Vaughn is dead set against it.

From a physical standpoint, the WWE star whose mother named him Paul Levesque wouldn't be a bad choice -- and if Thor was being made 20 years ago, this is exactly the direction everyone would expect the project to go. (Matter of fact, we're sort of surprised Brian Bosworth never starred in a late '80s, direct-to-video Thor.) Still, it's easy to see why Vaughn would resist the studio's alleged overtures, and IESB claims that another actor under consideration for the part of Asgard's favorite son is the decidedly less bulky Kevin McKidd (of Rome).

Back in the day, of course, the comic-book version of Thor walked the Earth as the gimpy mortal Dr. Donald Blake, who transformed into his immortal alter ego by striking his cane on the ground -- so it isn't completely out of the question that both actors could wind up in front of Vaughn's cameras. Just a thought.

I thought we were done with the days of just throwing some buff dude on screen. Of course, the do keep making Marine, Walking Tall, and other such movies. I just would have thought Marvel would know better.

McKidd's great. I was sad to see Rome end. He would be a perfect Thor. Vorenus showed the stoicism that I'd imagine Thor to have.

This is BS. I can't beleive CHUD would post this. There is no way Marvel is gonna pee all over a potentially lucrative franchise like that.

yeah no triple H wrestler bullcrap. I have an idea why not use an actor as the actor?!
Mckidd would be a much better choice. Hopefully Vaughn gets his way, he might not be speilberg but when the guy makes a movie the way he wants to make it he hasn't failed yet.

Triple H brings in the millions of wrestling fans, so they already have an audience. i'm guessing the majority of people don't know who Thor is anyway. any kind of ALREADY-FAN they can get is a plus for this movie. you know this is going to be a corny comic book movie anyway...just be thankful its being made

OK, let's all remember this...Thor's alter-ego needs to do the ACTING...THOR needs to do the buff, meathead, growl and snarl stuff...so yeah, both actors could seemingly do the part...besides, all Triple H would need to say is "ASGARD!" a dozen times...it's Thor people...this isn't going to rock by any means. Throw a wrestler in there. Just keep WWE Films away from it and we're good (oh, and anyone doubting the goodness of wrestler-actors, I dare anyone to say they didn't enjoy The Rundown).

Like McKidd, but McKidd as Thor.... not so much. He's too puny. Where's that guy from 13th Warrior?

Triple H as either Conan or Thor.. physically the perfect choice!

They gotta use this guy and his looks soon.. he's starting to get old and flabby! I was sad to see the role he was given in Blade Trinity.. :(

i really can see HHH do it. but can he realy do acting?
not enough evidence in my opinon. personally i think they really need to start sculpting (no pun intended) the gyms and arenas for a body builder/actor. some no name, would be perfect, giving the oportunites of a mega film like thor can be. like conan thor should be done in that sense and really have no earth bound relation, its just lame. all i can picture is that ****ing horrible movie called BeastMaster 2. hell why not get a muscle bound real norsman actor. personally if he speaks english well im down for the accent. hell lead singer of opeth was one aswesome swedish accent.

Good for Vaughn. This project would be a laughing stock with Triple H or any other wrestler in the lead. As I see it, the only way this one will have any chance of success is if they make it into the high-quality fantasy film that it deserves to be. In truth, Thor's power has nothing to do with his muscles. He's a god, after-all. His physical form is just for show. I still have hope that they will see the light and cast Vladimir Kulich from "The 13th Warrior". He would lend this movie the kind of talent it desperately needs.

no way kulich is in no way good for the role, hes old, his appearence other than his face is good for thor. vaughn is wonderful as a film maker, but heck why not use his layer cake star have the blonde buff bond daniel craig himself play thor, just needs some long hair and were all set.

There will be no Donald Blake in this picture. There is no Donald Blake in the script. Do you really want to see 2 hours of Triple H?

Kevin McKidd isbetter choice, I've never seen Rome and I don't remember him from anything in his filmography but he's got to be better than Triple H who was horrible in Blade:Trinity.

I want a good actor, but so many people are set to spit their venom on this movie because they don't like Thor, maybe the movie's only hope is to use a money-magnet like Triple-H. However, if they do, the movie's credibility will shatter. Tough decision.

By Odin's beard, I will watch this movie!
