on Dec 01 2006 02:19 AM it will be lame Verhoeven will probably not work in hollywood soon, escpecially on sci fi movies. he has stated this in numurous interviews in holland last couple of months. "Professionaly it is getting more and more difficult to go back to los Angeles, since I have worked on Blackbook in the Netherlands. With complete artisitic freedom and in line with my peronal background and intrests." And a second starship troopers is out of the question. "a movie like Starship troopers can't be made anymore. Much too risky. Also it is too dark. Besides everything is being checked on national unfriendly matters nowadays. I'm affraid that even Americans would see that it isn't about big bugs, but about their limited vision on the world." but furthermore, ST was action but not entertaining enough. so why bother to make number 3 if it's on the same foot. on Dec 01 2006 10:36 AM All of you who love the first movie should go pick up the original book by Robert Heinlen. It's a masterpiece that the original movie (as good as it was) doesn't do justice. The second move, well, it's barely deserving of a comment. And if wishes were horses the third movie would be deserving of a comment. (Reply to this) |
![]() on Dec 02 2006 09:20 AM lol, maybe they should have a re-make and let it be more loyal to Robert Heinlen's ST. (Reply to this) |

on Dec 02 2006 11:16 AM Echoing other comments, I liked the movie untill I read the book... at which point the movie seemed like an insult. The book is written around the premise "what if you had to earn your civil rights?" on a backdrop of interstellar war. The movie was written around the premise "What if the bad guys are insects... and the good guys are fascists?" But I would forgive the first movie completely if they introduced the concepts of powered armor and capsule troopers in this sequel... even if they do it by making the Roughnecks an experimental elite unit that's the first to try it out. Barring that, the only hope is for a faithful translation called "MI" or "Cap Trooper." Seriously, the book's version of combat, with orbital insertions and powered armor and flamethrowers, and bugs that had actually mastered the concept of weaponry would make for a much better flick than the original, with its rubber vests and big plastic M-16s (Reply to this) |

on Dec 02 2006 03:09 PM First off, I didn't read all the messages so if anyone's babbling on about "the NPH", and i'm sure some of you are, please stop. That movie wasn't as funny as you thought it was, and if you do, then you haven't seen old people fall down for no reason but that gravity > their bones. That said, who cares about this? No one? OK, back to battering Kirsten Dunce! (Reply to this) |

on Dec 02 2006 05:22 PM As long as it's plenty gory like the original, and a sly jab at the conservative mindset, I'll be there. the effects in the original still hold up very well by today's standards. (Reply to this) |

on Dec 04 2006 04:30 PM "draft riots"... "religion makes a comeback"... the heinlein estate should be ashamed for letting these people get ahold of the license first, in a society where only military veterans are full citizens, there wouldn't ever BE a draft. Second, religious freedom was guaranteed to all citizens and legal residents of the federation in the book. Special attention is paid to the necessity of chaplains in the ranks. Also, "a sly jab at the conservative mindset"? calling the first movie a "sly jab" is like saying 'An Inconvenient Truth' had "subtle environmentalist undertones." It's like calling decapitation a "minor neck injury." It's like saying USC "eked out a tough win" over Notre Dame last week (for those who don't follow football, USC won 44-24) (Reply to this) |

![]() on Dec 06 2006 09:29 AM Starship Troopers 3 is set to be shot in South Africa. I find that interesting because ST 2 was shot in a studio California, and Starship Troopers was filmed in several states of the US, including a national park. So this could show that ST3 might actually be a theatrical showing b'c it's not going to be shot in some insignificant studio, but who knows. What movies are shot in South Africa? (Reply to this) |

on Jan 20 2007 12:16 PM In reply to this comment (#850027) I so agree Serenity was THE movie from THE show of all times. Firefly was canceled way before it's time. Guess it wasn't comercial enough. Troopers (the original) was one of my favorites. Hope they do a good job. (Reply to this) |
