It's an interesting week for home video, and here's why; we've got new films from a celebrated cinematographer adapting a video game (Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun Li, directed by Andrejz Bartkowiak), a rap-rock front man doing a sensitive coming of age tale (The Education of Charlie Banks, directed by Fred Durst), an action veteran gunning for hire (12 Rounds, directed by Renny Harlin), and, well, Uwe Boll (Tunnel Rats). The week also features a recently unearthed film from comedy director Hal Ashby (Lookin' to Get Out, starring Jon Voight and Angelina Jolie in her first role) and an anthology film dedicated to the city of Tokyo, Japan (Tokyo!, directed by Michel Gondry, Joon-Ho Bong and Leos Carax). Last but not least, The Asylum gives us the highly anticipated sequel to their Transformers knock-off "mockbuster" (Transmorphers: The Fall of Man)!

Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun Li -- 04%

Out of 50 reviews counted since its late February debut, only two gave Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun Li a pass. (Even more incredibly, those Fresh reviews came from Variety and The New York Times.) Most everyone else awarded this video game redo the lowest of low marks, calling it worse even than its 1994 predecessor, a vehicle that starred Jean-Claude Van Damme. Kristen Kreuk (Smallville) stars as Chun Li, a pianist-turned-pugilist out for vengeance against the steely Bison (Neal McDonough), who employs thugs the likes of Michael Clarke Duncan (as Balrog) and Taboo of the Black Eyed Peas (as his doppelganger, Vega). Luckily, Chun Li's got a few allies on her side, including Gen (Robin "Liu Kang" Shou!) and Nash (Chris Klein, who, as critic Alonso Duralde put it, "fail[s] to walk into a room convincingly"). Former cinematographer Andrzej Bartkowiak directs, but is conspicuously absent from the DVD and Blu-ray commentary track by producers, McDonough, and Klein; deleted scenes and a ton of featurettes tell you more than you ever wanted to know about one of 2009's worst films.

When "Street Fighter" isn't the worst movie of the week...something is SERIOUSLY wrong! I'm looking at you "Transmorphers 2"! I saw the first, and had to shower in holy water to get the awfulness off me.

Why the **** has no one kicked Uwe Boll's ***. Please no more critics trying to box him. But, there has got to be someone in hollywood who wants to kick the **** out of him(Michael Bay?).

P.S.- Can't wait for Kane and Lynch. Stay away Uwe Boll!

Ah yes, Transmorphers. Made by The Asylum, the crappy movie studio that also brought you Mega Shark vs. Giant Octopus.

rambo-killer: I never thought I'd root for Michael Bay, but if they were forced to fight it's a no brainer.

arnedr: "Mega Shark vs Giant Octopus" is their best...that shows how good they are.

Really doesn't look like a good week. No, I will not give the Razzie winning film a shot. However I can highy recommend Two Lovers to anyone. I caught it in theatres and very much enjoyed it. It is a realistic romance. Very good film. Highly recommended. Other than that nothing I have interest in

Actually, M. Bay actually responded to Boll bashing him

http://www.bingegamer.net/2008/michael-bay-uwe-boll-is-a-sad-being/

He doesn't care the least. At least Bay's movies are making a ton of money despite scathing reviews.

I know it's a bad week for good movies, but there's something about having:

- new Uwe Boll
- Street (4%) Fighter
- Transmorphers 2 (did you see that CG robot?)
- Fred Durst directing a movie
- new Renny Harlin
- and a 00% Hal Ashby movie.

I find this week in DVD highly amusing. Then again, I'm sort of fascinated with bad movies.

JEN OUT!

I might see Street Fighter just for laughs... I love terrible cheesy movies, which makes me want to see Transmorphers as well (which I'm sure is still better than the material its ripping off. I mean, at least its funny, even if it is unintentional, which I actually don't think it is, but yeah...).

However, Tokyo! and Two Lovers sound great, especially Tokyo! because I'm a total Japanophile (and no, that doesn't mean I just love anime and sushi, I pretty much am fascinated with everything from/about Japan besides those two things), I'm looking at you Jen. (Yamato is Japanese, right? I already feel creepy enough, but if I'm wrong... yikes).

I really do love how RT bashes many of these films then shamelessly self promotes exclusive clips and such. (and no. I'm not being sarcastic, I really do like it!)Speaking of shameless self promotion, here's my [crappy and useless] twitter account! http://twitter.com/AronDej

Good article Jen, I LOL'd lots. (oh, and don't I use parentheses too much?)
