Director Rob Minkoff goes out of his way to avoid a cloying tone, and the writers include funny bits for the parents in the audience.

From Rob Minkoff, co-director of The Lion King, comes the comedy adventure Stuart Little, based on the classic book by beloved American author E.B. White (Charlotte's Web, The Trumpet of the Swan) that has been entertaining families for over 50 years. Combining live-action with groundbreaking visual effects technology by the artists and innovators at Sony Pictures Imageworks, it's the story of a mouse who is raised by the Littles, a human family played by Academy AwardŽ winner Geena Davis, Jonathan Lipnicki (Jerry Maguire) and Hugh Laurie (101 Dalmations). As Stuart (voiced by Michael J. Fox) embarks on adventures with a variety of characters, including his nemesis, Snowbell the cat (voiced by The Lion King's Nathan Lane), Stuart learns the true meaning of family, loyalty and friendship. Reviews for Stuart Little
Sweet without any touch of saccharine, and very, very funny without any of the usual Hollywood visual excess.
With real heart and laughs, Stuart Little lets you forget the special effects and enjoy the show.
Stuart Little is an exciting fantasy adventure for kids with more than enough verbal and visual wit to tickle adult funny bones.
The screenwriters do a great job of balancing the frightening aspects of the story -- night exteriors in Central Park with the warmth and coziness of the Little home.
It certainly offers a sweet, amiable moviegoing experience, and parents who treat their children to it are unlikely to find themselves bored with it.
E.B. White's tearful prepubescent semi-classic gets the Happy Hollywood treatment, but with disappointing results.
Ms. Davis infuses her quirky appeal with the warmth she showed in her Oscar-winning turn in The Accidental Tourist.
There's nothing in Stuart Little that works on dual levels -- for both adults and children -- as is the case in the two Toy Story films.
It's too bad that Stuart Little doesn't quite measure up to the extraordinary sweetness of the classic children's book by E.B. White on which it is based.
Despite these shortcomings, the lesson is resolved as it should be -- with acceptance.
Nearly everything delightful about the book is erased or painted over here with near-plotless kiddie fare.
The fact of its hero upstages anything the plot can possibly come up with.
I'm a huge lover of "Babe," but was a bit let down with "Babe II" ... if you agree with that, then "Stuart Little" is kind of like a "Babe 1.5."
