what they need, plotwise, is this:

superpowered alien of your choice (bizzaro, brainiac, darkseid, mongul, doomsday, metallo, parasite, original character, whatever) finds out true identity of kid, kills him, superman gets pissed, kicks the **** out of him. the end. truth and justice for all.

visually, i was hoping for something that looked along the lines of spiderman 2. a bright colorful movie that didnt take itself too seriously and didnt get bogged down in the darker aspects of the character (supes was more bat like in Returns). even though superman returns looked great, it didnt look like a superman movie should. it was too dark and old fashioned. the one ray of sun light was the plane crash sequence. compare that to the stormy background of the kryponite island that took more of an hour out of the movie. superman doesnt have to fight at night!

i hate it whenever there is any superman related news, because i always end up thinking about the movie, and the more i think about it the more i hate it for the colossal disappointment it was. it wasnt disappointing because it wasnt well made, on the contrary, it is a very well made flick, but i disagree with so many of their decisions (the suit, the kid, the lack of action sequences, the casting of a younger lois lane, basically making it superman 1.5 plot wise, etc) and the singer and the writers just made so many bad decisions with "where do we want to take this" that i cant help but hold it against them. even if it made 391 mil world wide, we deserve better.

I AGREE, THEY RUINED IT WITH THE WHOLE FATHER SON B.S. MORE SMASHING, MORE BRAWLING-- I MEAN, LET THEM GO ALL OUT WITH HIS POWERS...BUT FOR THAT THEY NEED A WORTHY VILLAIN OR VILLAINS TO MATCH HIS STRENGHT... A LITTLE BIT OF SAVING BUT NOT OVER THE TOP WITH THE FALLING AIRCRAFTS AND UR TYPICAL HELPLESS CIVILIAN DANGLING OFF OR FALLING OFF A BUILDING--FINALLY THEY SHOULD TONE DOWN HIS VULNERABILITY TO CRYPTONITE IT GETS TOO ANNOYING. HE'S THE MAN OF STEEL FOR GOODNESS. Thats all.

I agree with Appregio Bosworth was really the only bad thing about Superman Returns as far as I am concerned, but that said Margot Kidder pretty much sucked too. Both women had no real grasp on the character and they both needed to eat some food. As far as I am concerned the only decent Louis Lane has been Dana Delany in the animated supes. Come to think of it she needed to eat some food too.

new writers sounds good, and let's hope Singer stays but stops trying to further tie these movies to the Donner movies. since so many people are hoping that Singer, Warner Bros., or both, i'd like to throw out here my hopes for the next movie.

1. A NEW VILLAIN! someone who can kick the crap outta Superman, preferably without the aid of the overused Kryptonite. my choice would be Darkseid launching a massive invasion of Earth.

2. if Lex has to be in the next movie, make him an underlying threat. have him use that old lady's inheritance to invest in a floundering company (perhaps a company called Webscoe, as a fun nod to the fans) and turn it into Lexcorp. have him trying to go after Superman's kid, either killing the little brat (use of Kryptonite would be acceptable) or kidnapping the brat to experiment on him, possibly turning him evil or using his DNA to make Bizarro or something. but i think most of the fans would be more in favor of offing the kid.

3. recast Lois Lane. Beluga Whale Forehead Bosworth were a horrible Lois. at least Margot Kidder was spunky and had a personality. Bosworth's Lois was bland and uninteresting. and damn, you could have landed an airplane on her forehead!

4. give Superman more lines and make him kick some ***! i think he spoke all of four lines in the last movie. these movies are supposed to be about Superman, so he should at least have a good chunk of the dialogue. and in this day and age with how bloody and violent movies and video games are, i don't think little kids will be screaming in fear if Superman balls up a fist and delivers some knuckles of steel to some supervillains. give us some action instead of more "Superman lifts things."

What hurts DC in the movie industry is it's tie to Warner Bros. studios. They are notorious micro-managers.

Kevin Smith would write a terrible Superman. Everyone would be standing around using dialog that no one uses in real life. Come on people.

You people are cold. Offing the little kid. Yeah, he sucked, but you want to kill the little bastard? Bosworth sucked. Agreed. No more kryptonite. Agreed. I've really enjoyed the movie the more I watch it on HBO. My old lady loves it. I thought they should have killed Cyclops, letting him die to save his family would have been honorable. It could still happen. Let's just kill all three; Lois, Cyclops and the little bastard. Let's just start fresh like Hulk. How about a throw back to the origins of Superman done in the style of Sky Captain. A period piece. You could have Ben Affleck playing a George Reeves type of Superman, with all of the spectacular effects of modern times. He could be fighting giant robots made by Lex Luthor or some creepy space alien like Doomsday.
