But her trusting nature and dangerously naive outlook on life make the dance hall girl prey for a succession of opportunistic men. Used and abused and finally jilted at the altar, Charity's innocent spirit remains uncrushed, soaring out in the film's collection of lavishly choreographed song and dance routines.
