Four 'Dark Knight' Sequences to Be Shot in IMAX

As if you needed one more reason to go see the "Batman Begins" sequel: Four of the scenes, including the introduction of The Joker, will be shot in the IMAX format.

"The Dark Knight" will be the first feature film to (partially) shoot in the IMAX format ... It's more immersive for the audience. I wish I could shoot the entire thing this way," is what director Christopher Nolan told USA Today.

Unfortunately only about a hundred of the 280 IMAX theaters nationwide presently screen Hollywood movies ... although that number is likely to go up by this time next year. The four specific sequences will obviously "stand out" when you visit your local mega-screen.

So why bother with the extra work and expense? Nolan says: "Batman has some of the most extraordinary characters in pop culture. We wanted the Joker to have the grandest entrance possible."

I doubt I would go through the trouble to go to Imax theatre(too far and ordering tickets before it sells out). But from the way they describe it, it sounds like those scenes will look amazing at a regular theatre...can't wait, even that clown pic from that website looked amazing.

I honestly enjoy going to see the movies at an IMAX theater, but normally the action scenes are too choppy. It's too much happening over such a large area. Hopefully actually shooting them in IMAX rather than just converting them to IMAX will help solve those issue. But I figure I'll be seeing this one at a regular theater.

I agree. That picture doesn't look very legit. For one thing, you can't see his feet or any kind of shadow. Not to mention that the design of that shot makes it seem like they were filming something else.

But seriously. Ridiculous? He looks like the joker in that pic. A very blurry one.

I have an IMAX theatre less then 10 minutes away so I'll be there anyway. The four scenes will not sway my decision to go see this in IMAX instead of a regular theatre.

Well I've always thought that they should have gone with a "crazy albino" than a guy who paints his face. But that's just me.
And the photo is legit, it came from USA Today about Batman filming four scenes in IMAX. So, unless USA Today got swindled, you can trust the source. I don't know why you'd doubt it, it looks exactly like the photo they DID release.

Who the crap knows, I don't subscribe to USA Today. Ask Superherohype.com, they are the ones who received the photo. But they aren't your average gossip site, they only post pretty legit stuff. Personally, I've never seen one of their stories get retracted. (and who do you think broke the new Batman photo everyone on this site loved? It wasn't RT)

If it is real (and it's possible), it was wise of them to hide him in that shot. But my question was, why do you think he looks ridiculous based on that shot? You can barely see him, and it's hard to tell if he looks much like the ilikeharveydenttoo.com shot.

You're right, there isn't much to go off of (two photos, both not clear, released on the internet isn't a lot to go off of). I would prefer the Joker to be an albino to someone who paints his face for fun, or theatrics, or whatever. To me, that would further pull Batman off the comic book pages and into the real world. If he paints his face at all, it should be to accentuate his albino look rather than make himself look like a scary clown. That's just me. I'm sure he'll end up looking alright either way (though, in that shot of him that's all blurry he looks more clownish than anything). The bright green hair would be a bit much, too. Making him albino would give the character a reason to identify with a Joker, rather than trying to MAKE himself identify with a joker. Does that make sense? I'm not all that familiar with who the Joker is or why he becomes the way he does in the comics, but I'd like to see him be a 'normal' person who identifies with the joker because he looks like it, or people always call him that because he's albino, or something like that. It would add a dimension to the character you wouldn't get if he's just a creepy guy who wears makeup.

No, I understand what you're saying now.

I do think people are a little over the top with comments about it having to be "realistic". I don't think Begins was really that realistic, it was more an attempt to make you understand the psychological reasoning behind the character. Let's not forget that he is a guy that dresses up like a Bat. It all felt real, but that was because we were all so immersed in such a good story (and the mood was perfect).

What I am scared about is that we're all thinking about this movie in depth, and it's not out for over a year! I feel like I'm getting slightly obsessed, and I don't want to ruin the final product for myself. I hope they go silent for a while.
