First Five Minutes of The Dark Knight In Front of I Am Legend?
...but only in IMAX!
by Jen Yamato | October 24, 2007
Blog Article | Discuss Article
News of the special Dark Knight preview comes not only third-hand, and translated from a German site, so don't take it as an official announcement -- but it's quite the exciting enticement for those who might have gone for a regular old normal-sized screening, no?

We'd previously heard that the IMAX presentation of I Am Legend would host a six or seven-minute Joker-related prologue, which it seems now might also be the first opening minutes of the film itself.

From Batman Movie News and Updates comes the translated piece that originated on Kino.de, in which the IMAX news is revealed. Kino also shares some story/production details:

-- Batman will go to Hongkong [sic] for some kind of "gangster hunting", but the producer Chuck Roven won't tell us why Batman travels to Hongkong.

-- "The whole thing is not 'Joker Begins', because we did not tell how the Joker became what he is", says director Christopher Nolan. "During these five minutes it is shown how the joker of the small crook becomes the most-dreaded gangster of the city - it is more of a "The Rise of the Joker"

-- Batman's new mask will have white lenses on the eyes when he turn on the Bat-sonar detection.

Dark Knight is now filming and will hit theaters on July 18, 2008.

Sweet, another great reason to watch I am Legend. Keep up the great work Mr. Nolan!

I'm glad they're not going into the creation of Joker again, and just getting to the good stuff.

I am Legend will be good on its own. They should attach this to all screens of I am Legend, not just IMAX.

I was already sold on I Am Legend - I'm a total Sci-Fi geek - but this sounds fantastic. Cannot wait to see the film's intro in IMAX!

This movie is being WAY too overhyped!! I'm excited to see it, but I'm not putting my hopes as high as some of you. I can't remember a movie being this hyped up before.

i think the hype for this one is blowing up for a couple reasons. first, the marketing team is working with the production side as the film evolves, and they're choosing specific images from on set, especially related to the joker, that are peeking people's curiosity. they're also presenting the content in unique ways, like dummy websites (another joker tie-in) and the five-minute long prologue.

the reason anyone cares nine months before the film's release is that batman begins exceeded most people's expectations, or at least met them. it was an original vision of the story grounded firmly within a realistic (though stylized) realm. the only comparable comic movie is spider-man 2 and that world is based on super-human powers. with an excellent cast, director and preceeding film, it's a blockbuster worth getting excited about, and that's rare enough to garner some serious attention.

You mean the same kinda lame sonar that Kilmer used at the end of Batman Forever? No thanks. I like my Batman a little more rustic.

You know, I'm as excited as the rest of you, but I've been dissapointed too many times before. Loved Begins, but I'm not ready to throw myself head over heels on this one until I see it, or at least the trailer....=)

i dont know jackhorner, if they go for a few shots where batman is all in shadow except for his white eyes (like they did in the BTAS) that would be pretty cool. im sure nolan isnt going to use it in a gimmicky way like that immortal-hack-who-i-hate did in batman forever.

Agree blank blank, Looking forward to the White eyes too. Batman forever sucked mostly, and therefore any similar things that happen in both that film and this, should be disregarded, as im sure Nolan will not be looking to Shumachers films for inspiration. Similarities are bound to occur, doesnt mean this time round it will suck.

Curse you Shumacher, and at the same time bless you, for if if you didnt suck so bad, we wouldnt have Begins!

there will definately be an X-men-X2, spiderman-spiderman2 kind of leap in awesomeness from begins-TDK. how could it not? all that time spent going into developing bruce wayne in the first one will be filled with joker and harvey dent awesomeness, and they replaced katie holmes with maggie gyllenhall (yes, we know she's not that hot, with the exception of Stranger than Fiction, but she can act).

Better villains, more action, better acting, a director who is presumably better at handling a big budget and production... all improving on a movie that most fans agree is a top 3 superhero movie (i'd put it as batman begins, x men 2, then spiderman 2, in that order). how can it not be awesome.

I rate BATMAN as No 1, as far as Super Heroes goes. Both from Comics/animation to Movies. Although most will dissagree with him being Super as such. Me personally, Fire brigade, cops, doctors are Heroes, Batman is More than that so i guess that makes him Super?

My list is Batman, Superman(reeves) Spiderman 1 n 2.

I am Legend looks great, kinda like the way the Transformers trailer looked great , but I have a feeling this one will actually come through.

I wish the preview was showing with the regular film as well. There isn't an IMAX theater near me :( Guess I'll have to hope someone posts it on the internet.

I have no doubt that this movie will be amazing; it's that inevitable second sequel that worries me..... Spiderman 3 and X-men 3 had nothing on their predecessors.
