An AC/DC concert, Sydney, 1991. At the front of the mosh pit are five devoted fans having the night of their lives: Sonny (Damon Gameau -- The Tracker), Ben (Stephen Curry -- The Castle), Lloyd (Ryan Johnson -- The Wannabes), Sam (Callan Mulvey -- Heartbreak High) and Ronnie (Sam Worthington -- Gettin' Square). Sonny, thrust onto the stage by his mates, dives back into the crowd and the band's lead guitarist/rock god Angus Young tosses him his cap in acknowledgement. Although the boys are thrown out of the after show party they attempt to crash, for a moment they share the same room as their heroes. As they try to make their way home, a cab driver speeds off to avoid them and crashes his car fatally. Reeling with shock, certain that they would have died in the accident, they have a moment of revelation. What delayed them as the sight of a 1978 poster of AC/DC's former lead singer, the late Bon Scott, looking down on Sonny and Ronnie in a laneway. the was this moment that saved their lives. In their relief and exhilaration, they make a pact that, if any one of them should die, the others will bury him next to Bon Scott in Fremantle Cemetery, on the other side of the country. Twelve years pass. The boys have drifted in different directions, none of them completely adjusted to the disappointment of adult life, when a bolt of lightning -- a tragic echo of the last song they heard together at the AC/DC concert -- changes everything. They decide to honour the pledge they once made to each other and take their dead friend to Bon Scott's final resting place. As these once-close friends begin their quest, traveling across the country with the stolen remains of their mate to fulfill a promise they made to each other many years earlier, they have many obstacles to overcome. Reviews
A warm and witty little road comedy, full of silly side-trips, colorful characters, and just enough heart to keep the adventure afloat.
Any metalhead or classic rock fanatic will find plenty here to enjoy, even if the on-screen proceedings are rote.
The music is great, the opening compelling and promising, and moments of fun are great. But Thunderstruck is not as thunderstriking as its elements might suggest.
