Based on a horrifying true story from World War II and adapted from the autobiographical book by survivor Ernest Gordon, TO END ALL WARS tells the brutal tale of a group of Scottish soldiers who discover just how evil war can be. Major Campbell (Robert Carlyle), Gordon (Ciaran McMenamin), Dusty (Mark Strong), and American Lieutenant Reardon (Kiefer Sutherland) are captured by the Japanese. Beaten, starved, and brutalized, they are then forced to work on the "Railway of Death," building track through an impossibly dense jungle. David L. Cunningham's film focuses on the battles within each individual soldier, adding even more gravity to the picture. [More]

Reviews for To End All Wars
Its message of costly sacrifice and hard-won reconciliation is at the heart of the gospel, and the fact that this story is drawn from actual events demands attention.
...there's no denying that the story it's telling is a fascinating one.
the unoriginal presentation, which often favors hitting us over the head when restraint would be far more enticing, leaves much to be desired
There's so much cynical and calculated religion these days that it's nice to see, regardless of one's wartime affiliation, a traditional Christian forgiveness that really does have the power to redeem.
Director David L. Cunningham, working on a small budget, skillfully combines scenes of action and anxiety with substantial character development.
An ensemble effort that recalls other great POW movies, Wars boasts many superb performances.
