Variety indicates that Tom Cruise will most likely star in Terry George's Edwin A. Salt, an espionage story written by ... Kurt Wimmer? Really? The same Kurt Wimmer who wrote / directed Equilibrium and Ultraviolet? OK then.
The thriller will focus on a CIA spy who is accused of being a counter-spy, so (of course) he has to hit the road, protect his family, and prove his innocence.
Mr. George is best known for writing and directing Hotel Rwanda, although he also penned films like Hart's War, The Boxer, and In the Name of the Father. Odds are that this will be Cruise's next project once the other two are completed.

Atticus is HIGHLY TENSE writes: on Jul 24 2007 01:52 PM Uh that plot sounds like Minority Report, in that he's a precrime policeman on the run, because he was accused of future murder and so he goes thru the whole movie trying to prove his innocence...... Just make it over with an espionage flavor, and POOF! You have SALT. Lame hackery at it's best. (Reply to this) |

arendr writes: on Jul 24 2007 02:25 PM In reply to this comment (#969073) As much as I like Steve McQueen, I think the remake was actually better. Maybe I just hate the stupid editing in the 60s version. You know, with all the split images and junk? I edited like that when I was in school. Don't get me started on the editing in Easy Rider... I've always been a huge Steve McQueen fan and as much as I hate remakes, I thought that the remake of The Thomas Crown Affair was better than the orginal and for pretty much the same reason as you stated. Like in "On Her Majesty's Secret Service" the fight scenes are cut so that it appears a man can stand up and throw a punch after being on his *** .1 seconds beforehand. That's still an excellent Bond film though (especially that last hour or so!). (Reply to this) |
