Disney Having Trouble With "Toy Story 3"
Fox411 via IGN FilmForce reports that Disney is having difficulty finding a director for "Toy Story 3." According to sources close to the project, no major directors want to take on the film, which will not be made in conjunction with Pixar, over concerns of alienating the animation company. The first two "Toy Story" films were Disney/Pixar co-productions, but with the companies' agreement lapsing, Disney has decided to make the third film itself, and may hire a new animation team to recreate the Pixar look. It is unclear whether voice stars Tom Hanks and Tim Allen will return for the third installment.

sox1919 writes: on Jan 28 2005 02:22 PM This is simply a bad idea. Pixar was the head (the thought), the spine (the soul), and the legs, (the power) behind 1 and 2. I realize Disney is clutching at straws, but to quote Patterson Hood, "30 years of decisions made," will have to be answered for when Disney realizes the luster is gone and starts to point fingers. Just like Republicans, when big business have to outsource jobs, the big companies are in trouble. Cept this time the outsourced jobs are producing at such a high quality that the big dog is starving. Sorry Disney, you're done. (Reply to this) |

Ophiuchus writes: on Jan 30 2005 02:38 AM Nah Pixar's charm lies in the fact that they can captivate EVERYONE, not just children. Disney, however, rarely manages to entertain adults. This is why most of their adult-oriented movies have been flops. It's just wrong that a series that charmed so many will have a third film needlessly added to it which will be almost garuanteed to be only entertaining to small children. (Reply to this) |

Darth Pepsi writes: on Jan 30 2005 10:20 PM Ummm you have a good point The Disney Corporation is more and more concerned with one thing...making themselves more money. Anybody ever been to the Amusement park. They jacked up the price on season passes again, and eliminated a ton of days. We had the passes last year, and dropped them because they have gotten ridiculous. They are not catering to the kids by getting rid of Pixar, but trying to save money. I never said that I liked it, but for all kids I was hoping that they could make it work out. The magic in the Pixar films is that they did appeal to everyone. My bad....your right. They are not doing it for anything other than to line their pockets. Why try to defend the indefensible? They sucK! (Reply to this) |

The Senhman writes: on Jan 31 2005 01:41 PM Yeah, it's all about the money. On a business perspective, you can't blame them. I read in a USA Today article that EACH of their sequels to Lion King, Aladdin, and Little Mermaid (and a couple others) actually made them about $100M in pure profit! That's a lot better than most of their feature films. Sometimes, they're even more profitable than the originals. Mostly because they're a lot cheaper to make and market because they're direct-to-video. If I were running the company and I know that these cheapy direct-to-video sequels can make so much money, I'm not sure if I could hold the urge to not make them, especially since their recent in-house animated features have done so poorly at the box office. The thing is they'll eventually run out of good films to make sequels of if they continue cranking out crappy animated features. And I'm sure if they make Toy Story 3 without Pixar, it would generate ill will amongst the animation and film community. I wonder if the general public knows that Disney and Pixar are different companies tho? (Reply to this) |
