Defying critics, champions of taste and the evolution of human life in general, Michael Bay's unstoppable metal machines made scrap of Scrat and co. as Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen comfortably kept Ice Age: Dawn of Dinosaurs at robotic arm's length to hold on to the No. 1 at the Australian box office for its second week.
The Fox/Blu Sky animated threequel pulled in a mammoth $5.9 million at the weekend (with an $8 million plus cume for the week to date), but still had its "ice" kicked (see how the advertising can come back and bite you?) by Transformers, which banked another $6.3 million to bring its two week total to a massive $27 million -- by far the biggest film of 2009.
There wasn't a lot of other action on the chart this week, with a mild 15th-place debut for well-reviewed Hugo Weaving film Last Ride and strong holdovers The Hangover and Coco Avant Chanel both easing just 8 per cent.
Bay's bots should get royally punked this week thanks to a certain Austrian fashionista (but which is the genuinely gayer movie, we wonder?), before another "dirty wizard" -- boy wunderbar Harry Potter -- swoops in over the following frame.
