"Transformers" Revealed!
Which "robots in disguise" will show up for Michael Bay's live-action "Transformers" next year? Two of the pic's screenwriters showed up online this morning to reveal just which Autobots and Decepticons we can look forward to seeing duke it out on the big screen.
Writers Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci (who previously teamed to write "The Island," "Mission: Impossible III" and more) showed up on Yahoo to answer fan questions about the beloved 80s cartoon-turned-blockbuster, which will hit theaters on July 4, 2007.

Some of the characters they cited to appear in the movie:
Autobots:
- Optimus Prime
- Bumblebee -- scout
- Jazz
- Ratchet -- a medical officer; in the cartoon, he was an ambulance; in the movie, he'll be some kind of emergency vehicle
- Ironhide -- a tough soldier; classic cowboy; Optimus' oldest friend
- Spike
- Megatron
- Starscream -- obeys Megatron, but wants to overthrow him
- Brawl -- an extremely pissed off Decepticon
- Bonecrusher -- closest thing to a constructicon; hates all other Decepticons except Megatron
- Barricade -- hunter of the group, scouting for Autobots; transforms to cop car as an ironic symbol of authority
- Scorponok
- Frenzy -- a smaller form, able to infiltrate around you and not be seen -- a "stealth spy"; can hide under desks
- Blackout -- takes out the ability to fight back; hits electronics (EMP); is the biggest vehicle, transports other Decepticons

Perhaps "Manos: Hands of Fate" will get that much-deserved remake after all. "Megatron: Handgun of Fate" has a nice ring to it. Please God, do what You can to make this not suck. (Reply to this) |

Mikeal420 writes: on Aug 18 2006 02:09 PM Why Micheal Bay!!?? This guy is such a wannabe John Woo(who isn't all that great to begin with) He better not fill the movie with his wide-angle, fish lens shots he always uses, with the patriotic classical music he plays in the backround that sounds like the stuff John Williams throws in the trash. They might as well have gotten Jerry Bruckheimer, since there is not much of a difference anyway!! Here is a list of much better action directores I'm sure they could have gone with: Steven Spielberg (obvious choice) Peter Jackson (another obvious choice) Guillermo De Toro (yet another obvious choice) Darron Aaronofsky (this would be great for his first mainstream pic, imagine all the expiermentation he could do with the morphing) Oliver Stone (Why not a conspiracy to throw in the mix) Mel Gibson (if Braveheart and Passion prove anything, is this guy knows how to direct action) If there are any others, please let me know... dabigwaxy writes: on Aug 18 2006 02:29 PM No on Mel Gibson MiKeal, I'm afraid I'm going to have to disagree with your choice of Mel Gibson to direct this movie. Here is my arguement First, Mel Gibson hates Jews. Second, it is well known that Jews run Hollywood and Noah's Bagel's. Third, The Jews will not let Mel Gibson make a picture that is so inherently Jewish. After all, is this not a film about a holy war. Jews vs. Christians. I did some research, it turns out the original character name for Optimus Prime is Optimus Primestien. He was supposed to turn into a giant Mataza ball to roll over the decepticons. Stupid Michael Bay took it in a different direction. My choice would have been Woody Allen. (Reply to this) |

mrdanny writes: on Aug 18 2006 02:36 PM Micheal Bay is a fine choice for this movie. He knows how to direct action scenes,in his own way, just as good as the the directors mentioned!! I think people should stop bashing the guy, hes not even done filming the movie yet... Ive seen most of his movies and though the dialouge may be a little cheezy and sreenplays a little weak all in all they have been very entertaing (which is why I go to see a summer blockbuster in the first place). Watch the action scenes in "The Island" for example... That highway chase scene is incredible!!!!! I can see the reason for all this concern but if he has alot of creative freedom on this movie then maybe more people will hopefully be satisfied.... cheers (Reply to this) |

DJ Jay Lion writes: on Aug 18 2006 02:49 PM Soundwave I can not beleive that they left Soundwave out. I will boycott this movie. How can you abandon the Decepticon who had the most impact after Optimus and Megatron? Remember his voice? Soundwave was the one who created most of the new technology that made the transformers, he builds them. This is an outrage! At least Frenzy is in there but cmon Hollywood do something right for a change! (Reply to this) |

And Familiar Autobots......Still I will wait for the DVD. I will see it in theaters when the Franchise is remade in 2009 By Steven Spielberg or Robert Zemicks. (Reply to this) |

TheIceGhost writes: on Aug 18 2006 02:54 PM Michael Bay has a bad rap...I think a lot of people just slam him because everyone else does. Yeah he's had a few stinkers, but he does make good summer popcorn movies. The Island is a very good example of this; not a awe-inspiring movie, but does the job in getting you 'away from it all' for an afternoon. Those are the kind of movies Bay makes, not everyone is gonig to be a Coppola, Jackson or Speilberg...and that's a good thing. Transformers is going to be, *gasp* a summer popcorn movie. C'mon, a movie with a premise like Transformers isn't going to exactly win an Oscar. In the hands of Bay it will achieve what it is setting out to do, be a summer popcorn movie (notice a trend here?). Although I must say, I am dissappointed that Soundwave isn't making an appearance... (Reply to this) |

And his little cassette friends would be SD or Compact Flash chips? I'd also like to see Jetfire and Shockwave. If I remember correctly, Shockwave stayed on Cybertron though. (Reply to this) |

drakesworth writes: on Aug 18 2006 04:06 PM This is hilarious... Are you serious? Since when did the frickin' Transformers become worthy of critique? This movie is based on a cheap cartoon made to promote the sale of toys, for crying out loud. What is wrong with you people? The only character that was even the least bit interesting was Starscream and that was only in fits and starts. Who did you think was going to direct this movie? You freaks don't want to face it but Michael Bay is actually more esteemed than the darn Transformers. Give me a break. The American version is almost as bad as the Japanese counterparts, so I am amazed that people are actually complaining that there's no Soundwave. No Soundwave? Wah! Get a life...Soundwave was a robot from outer space, far from earth with a CASETTE PLAYER IN HIS CHEST. Because, you know, cassette players were universal inventions all over the galaxy and *not* a thing of the 80's, mind you. This backlash is just a hysterical wave of nostalgia and not related in any way to the sup-par quality of the actual source material (see Thundercats. Actually don't, they were worse than He-Man). Find something useful to complain about and stop wasting your time on moronic posts like who should have directed the Transformers, instead of Michael "The Rock" Bay and why Soundwave or Steeplejack or frickin' Tripticon isn't in the movie. You guys are so cool... (Reply to this) |

ArmyofJuan writes: on Aug 18 2006 06:40 PM Actually Not putting in soundwave DOES make sense. Because, as some who have posted previously stated, soundwave has a giant cassete player in his chest which eject cassette tapes that transform into panthers and taradactyls and such. If that invaded my home town, i would laugh and throw water on him. I also agree that everyone needsto chill out with this Michael Bay whining. I don't know what everyone expects transformers to be other than an action movie. It's not going to re-define film making as we know it. It's not going to be the next schindlers list or godfather or whatever classic you can think of. It's going to be a movie about GIANT ROBOTS. What exactly is everyone expecting? The fact that there is some high production movie about transformers is enough to make me happy. Stop being picky. (Reply to this) |
