Consensus: A funny, tender, and thought-provoking film, The Truman Show is all the more noteworthy for its remarkably prescient vision of runaway celebrity culture and a nation with an insatiable thirst for the private details of ordinary lives.

The life of Truman Burbank (Carrey) has been broadcast around the world with tremendous success since the day he was born. A star for the mere fact that he exists, Truman has no idea that there are cameras in every corner of his world. But soon, cracks begin to show in the constructed world, and Truman questions his existence while everyone around him is in on the joke. Weir directs a fine cast, including Laura Linney as Truman's wife and Ed Harris as the show's director. Screenwriter Andrew Niccol also added interesting twists to the scripts for S1M0NE and GATTACA. Reviews for The Truman Show
A film that leaves you stunned and debating its message as the credits roll. I've never seen anything like it
The underlying ideas made the movie more than just entertainment. Like Gattaca, the previous film written by Niccol, it brings into focus the new values that technology is forcing on humanity.
A brilliant and daring film that blends charming comedy, affecting drama, thought-provoking satire and even a touch of biblical parable.
The absolutely riveting story has both (television and movie) audiences on the edge of their seats wondering.
A bracingly intelligent, provocative and witty mix of entertainment values and long thoughts.
The key to this film is an incredibly complex yet simple script by Andrew Niccol.
For all of its intelligence and speculative power, the film is still about a real human being with real emotions.
A surreal and immensely likable fable that straddles the line between comedy and drama.
What could have been a comedy content to ride on the fame of its star turns instead into a disturbingly funny statement on modern life in the shadow of mass media.
