Hey, the movie won Best Foreign Film at the '06 Oscars, so the guy clearly has some skills. But what else was it that made the Fox brass take notice? Apparently it's Mr. Hood's Rendition, a New Line political drama that stars Jake Gyllenhaal, Reese Witherspoon, Peter Sarsgaard, and Meryl Streep. (That movie opens on October 19th.)
For the Wolverine fans who are still skeptical, you can take solace in the fact that not only does leading man Hugh Jackman approve of the decision -- you can bet he was involved in the entire process. Here's what he told Variety: "I have long been a fan of Gavin's work and know he will make a masterful film with the character intensity and action beats the fans expect."
Production on Wolverine (which was adapted from the comics by David Benioff) begins in November.

on Jul 20 2007 06:05 AM a director with a Best Foreign film Oscar? not too shabby. certainly better than getting some no-name hack with no kind of film credentials. (Reply to this) |
![]() on Jul 20 2007 06:43 AM Interesting. Movie went up a notch from "Don't want to waste my time seeing it". Now lets see if they'll make it rated R so they can have Wolverine be the bad-*** that he's supposed to be. It'd be nice to see his claws actually inflict some damage. (Reply to this) |

on Jul 20 2007 07:01 AM I'd like to see a Wolverine film. I would love to see them do the Origin storyline from the comics. That would be fun. And I doubt it'll be R, though. But who knows, it could be. (Reply to this) |

on Jul 20 2007 07:02 AM Tsotsi was vastly overrated. Still, the guy has some skill. This should be interesting. (Reply to this) |

on Jul 20 2007 08:09 AM I love this choice because "Tsotsi" was a great film which he did a very good job on. I think with the character of Wolverine with Jackman play him and Gavin Hood directing that this could be really one to anticipate. PEACE (Reply to this) |

on Jul 20 2007 10:01 AM In reply to this comment (#952581) He did a fair amount of damage in X2, slashing and stabbing people; but your right, we need more of that. It was probably the best part of X2, seeing Wolverine actually "mortally wounding" people. (Reply to this) |

on Jul 20 2007 11:08 AM Thank God its not Brett Ratner! That dumbass almost ruined X-men forever! This movie better not suck the same balls that the recent marvel films have! (Reply to this) |

on Jul 20 2007 11:28 AM Hopefully this doesn't become like the last time they brought in an artsy foreign film director, Ang Lee. I've had enough mutant poodles for one lifetime. (Reply to this) |

on Jul 20 2007 11:58 AM In reply to this comment (#953252) That's SO not funny; I just broke out in a cold sweat at the mere thought of Ratner turning back up like a bad penny to inflict more damage upon the X-franchise. (Reply to this) |
