First "Underdog" Teaser Hits the Scene
by Scott Weinberg | February 14, 2007
Discuss Article
If you're old enough to remember "Underdog," then you're probably too old to appreciate the direction in which Disney has decided to take the character. And if you're too young to know who Underdog is, then all you'll see in this brand-new teaser is a dog who can fly.

"Name recognition" is the game being played here, and all I can say is I hope "Underdog" turns out better than "The Adventures of Rocky and Bullwinkle" and "Dudley Do-Right." Click here to see the new "Underdog" teaser, but don't expect a whole lot. Aside from one cute shot of a flying doggy, we're not offered much in the way of movie footage.

Opening August 8th, "Underdog" comes from the director of "Racing Stripes," and it stars Peter Dinklage, Patrick Warburton and the voices of Amy Adams and Jason Lee. I've been wrong before (a whole lot of time, actually) but to me this trailer looks like a harbinger of obvious puns and broad silliness. Still, the dog is pretty cute -- even if it doesn't look a darn thing like the Underdog I remember.

Lame is the word I was thinking of. The dog looked nothing like Underdog. This will BOMB bigtime.

Nice parody of the original Superman, though. Only I don't think Christopher Reeve faceplanted the robber onto a police car...

Were there even humans in the Underdog cartoons? I was thinking it was all anthropomorphic animals. Or was that Hong Kong Phooey? I'm confused.

I don't know..I loved Underdog too, but I actually was pleased with the trailer. It seemed to be more clever than the usual family movie. I kinda wish it would be staight 2D animation but thats not in vogue anymore.

I wonder... will they make the point that Underdog was a pill-popper?

With Patrick Warburton and Jason Lee involved i'd like to believe this movie is going to be great!...but it won't be. God i hate hollywood. I see Garfield 2 written all over this one...just please don't ruin Calvin and Hobbes next.

The only thing decent was Jason Lee's voice. Other than that, it's utter crap.

Lord Almighty that was bad. Another entry from Disney's "ScreenCrap" brand of mid-range family films that blow. The real question here is how long will it be until they announce the greenlight has been given to "Expedition Everest - The Movie!"

Oh, it'll happen.

This is like /34/ of movies. Raping my childhood.

How hard would it have been to do an ANIMATED or CG movie? I hate the live action/animated combo, it always looks terrible when people try to take it seriously.
