I've got nobody to root for ... in a movie like this I want to root for one of the boxers in the ring.

Consensus: While not the deepest boxing movie out there, Undisputed is successful at hitting its aspiration of being nothing more than a genre picture.

Reviews for Undisputed
It's as raw and action-packed an experience as a ringside seat at a tough-man contest.
Undisputed, in my estimation, is one opponent that's definitely down for the count.
Rhames is a tightly harnessed bundle of fury, Snipes a restrained champion who seems to have made inner peace with the crime of passion that sent him away for life, and Falk a riveting delight.
Walter Hill's pulpy, stylized boxing melodrama Undisputed nearly overcomes its questionable in-the-ring match-up with solid fight choreography and gritty prison authenticity.
Walter Hill continues doing what he does best, knocking out a visceral prison melodrama with a show-stealing role from Peter Falk.
It isn't Raging Bull, but at least it could give Play it to the Bone a knockout in five.
The needle on the testosterone meter zips into the red zone during the opening moments of Undisputed and doesn't dip back down until the closing credits are complete.
After a stretch of questionable projects like Last Man Standing and Supernova, Hill has rebounded with a boxing pic so purely pugilistic that nothing impinges on the main event.
This is the kind of movie that gets a quick release before real contenders arrive in September.
Writer-director Walter Hill and co-writer David Giler try to create characters out of the obvious cliches, but wind up using them as punching bags.
For all of Hill's effort, Undisputed still seems routine, and its hold on the audience is casual.
