Undisputed is slow going at the beginning, and some scenes will leave you yawning. At least the fight sequences, the film's saving grace, are a knockout.

Consensus: While not the deepest boxing movie out there, Undisputed is successful at hitting its aspiration of being nothing more than a genre picture.

Reviews for Undisputed
A first-class, thoroughly involving B movie that effectively combines two surefire, beloved genres -- the prison flick and the fight film.
There are no revelations in Undisputed and no moments of transporting grandeur. But it's professional, smart, quick-footed and snappy -- enviable traits in both a prizefighter and a nice little B-movie.
Coy but exhilarating, with really solid performances by Ving Rhames and Wesley Snipes.
Undisputed isn't exactly memorable, and as far as its prison setting goes, it has nothing on HBO's infinitely more brutal Oz. But as late-summer time killers go, you could do worse.
After a string of mediocre summer B movies like XXX and Blue Crush masquerading as big deals, it's refreshing to see an action-drama that doesn't pretend to be anything other than what it is.
This fightin'-cons drama may be one of the worst movies ever made about the sport of boxing as well as one of the worst-ever cinematic prison tales.
Walter Hill's Undisputed is like a 1940s Warner Bros. B picture, and I mean that as a compliment.
Listlessly directed and can't surmount the deja vu induced by the prison jumpsuits, tattoos, and scenes set near the community bench press.
Despite creative flourishes here and there ... Undisputed is ultimately destined for one of those "guy movie" marathons on cable TV.
Undisputed is a brutally efficient if unsurprising prison melodrama boasting no-frills performances by Ving Rhames and Wesley Snipes.
Finally, a genre movie that delivers -- in a couple of genres, no less.
