When the star quarterback (Paul Walker) suffers a knee injury just as the team is about to win their 23rd championship in 30 years, Mox is in the hot seat. Mox, however, is more interested in getting accepted to Brown, a view which is at odds with that of the pigskin-crazy town as well as that of militaristic Coach Kilmer (Jon Voight). But when Mox becomes a town hero for his football prowess, will his sights be swayed from his academic pursuits? This surprise hit from MTV Pictures was directed by Brian Robbins (HARDBALL). [More]

Although the film takes a worthwhile detour or two, it ultimately finds its way back to the well-worn track of its genre.

While there are some undeniable false notes, there's also quite a bit on screen that works.

Anyone who misses the heyday of the afterschool special will certainly enjoy this banal tale of self-fulfillment, juiced up with enough alcohol and sleaze to earn an R rating.

A paint-by-numbers story that offers no surprises and a hero and villain etched in white and black with few shades of gray.

Although there are signs of more intelligence lurking about, they're so obscured by the inane sophomoric material that few will recognize they even exist.

...someone could make a very interesting, nuanced film about the exalted place that high school football holds in some parts of Texas... this isn't that film.
