Lady in the Water on a Poster
by Scott Weinberg | May 15, 2006

With an all-new trailer last week and this brand-new one-sheet housed over at JoBlo's, it seems that Warner Bros. is just getting ramped up on their "Lady in the Water" marketing. Normally a "poster report" wouldn't be all that exciting, but this is actually a pretty cool poster. (Sue me, I'm a Shayamalanafan ... "The Village" notwithstanding, of course.)

"A modest building manager named Cleveland Heep (Paul Giamatti) rescues a mysterious young woman (Bryce Dallas Howard) from danger and discovers she is actually a narf, a character from a bedtime story who is trying to make the treacherous journey from our world back to hers. Cleveland and his fellow tenants start to realize that they are also characters in this bedtime story. As Cleveland falls deeper and deeper in love with the woman, he works together with the tenants to protect his new fragile friend from the deadly creatures that reside in this fable and are determined to prevent her from returning home."

Written and directed by M. Night Shyamalan ("Unbreakable") and co-starring Bob Balaban, Sarita Choudhury, Jeffrey Wright, Freddy Rodriguez, and Mary Beth Hurt, "Lady" swims into the theaters on July 21st.

I'm also a huge Shyamalan fan. And while the last outing wasn't so good, I feel obligated to see this movie.

I didn't think "The Village" was that bad. Regardless of what people think of Shyamalan's films, at least he gives us something original each time, instead of making sequel or remake. If only Hollywood had more people like him.

You want more originality in Hollywood? I think we can all agree that's a good thing. But proposing more people direct like him? How's is THAT original? Where's the logic in that?

Why The Conflict???
He/She did imply that other directors should duplicate or copy his style exactly.
They were just saying that writers and directors should just make an effort to be more orginal instead of always playing it safe.

What is this need we have in our society to put others down to make ourselves look more intelligent?

"Goodness". Not every suggestive comment is blantant critism. Fact: Hollywood is lacking in originality (X-Men 3, Harry Potter 4, Mission Impossible 3, Indiana Jones 4, Pirates of the Carribean 2, Super Man Returns, Posideon) Lets, at least, try to give people credit for acknowledging the problem. How can it get better if we spend all your time attacking the messagers. Please, try to put your frustration into helping to inspire productive discourse instead of condemning those who acknowledge their concern.

Sincerely,
R-lay
