Hitching a ride with a truck driver named Américo, he voyages from the north of Chile through Argentina and on to Bolivia, Peru, Brazil, Venezuela and finally, Mexico. On the way he encounters the various peoples, social structures and cultures that make up his continent -- and he learns that whether or not he finds his father, the odyssey itself may be enough.
