Mike Clarke (Keegan), a fighter pilot, is set to leave Chicago for Europe. Excessive celebration has left Mike with less than good judgment, and he accidentally bets a man--who happens to be the nephew of notorious gangster Al Capone--that he will shoot down five Axis planes. Fast forward to April 1944, and Mike is one plane away from his goal. The only problem is that he is stranded in a small town in Ireland after his plane runs out of fuel and ammo, and he doesn’t have the $10,000 he bet Capone’s nephew. But the charming locals will do their best to help him make number five, and a red-haired woman (Jade Yourell) tries equally hard to steal his heart. [More]

The plot isn't entirely successful in achieving the farcical tone it aims for.

Stiff acting and a clunky script are at odds with the visual suavity, though at a mere 83 minutes, the film won't make you wait long for the sentimental denouement.

A movie so unendurably bad it deserves to be put down like a sick dog.

[It's] aiming at pleasantly diverting, and can't seem to hit that reasonably located target.

Its shrill amateurishness makes it feel homemade in all the wrong ways.

Now and then comes an Irish comedy that pinches your cheek so hard in its attempt to charm the only recourse is to hole up with a triple bill of fatalistic Romanian dramas. And quickly

The actors are pleasant, the locations (County Galway) are beautiful, but the movie is a wheeze.

Let’s just say that it will take many Guinnesses to get over the stilted awfulness of this nonsensical ode to the Emerald Isle. Many Guinnesses.

A better script, stronger direction and a likable star could have made Waiting for Dublin worthy of the best whimsy.
