Kate Winslet, Jude Law, Jeremy Irons...Is This the "Watchmen" Cast List?
by Scott Weinberg | June 28, 2007
Blog Article | Discuss Article
Summary

As we wait and wonder about what Zack Snyder's "Watchmen" will end up like, we have a big juicy casting report to share. It might not be 100% finished just yet, but it's still fun to look through anyway. Back to Article

Wow, what a nice cast. Hopefully it's true.

Jackie Earle Haley as Rorschach? The guy is like 2 feet tall and 80 pounds soaking wet.

i can see this cast working.
law as ozy is spot on.
Patrick Wilson is a bit too pretty boy as Night Owl.
Jackie Earle Haley as Rorshach; that one is all about the voice. gotta have a good voice for him.
though he's not getting any 'face time' his voice and roll in the fill is key as he's a central character (like the voice work for 'V for Vendetta'). so no surpise he's not A-list.
Jane is also spot on as the comedian.
Jason Patric??? i'm guessing they're gonna do some intense make up on him for the sleak, ageless look of Dr. Manhattan (think Silver surfer)

all in all, a decent cast, if only ideal.

Patric certainly has the calm, collected voice of Dr. Manhattan. And Jude Law is the perfect Ozymandias. As for Rorschach, I think that two actors should play the character. If you've read the book then you'll know why.

Not bad at all. Get Paul Thomas Anderson to direct (or anyone else with the chops to do it justice) and you might have something.

Rorschach should be like a Darth Vader thing. One actor for voice. One for body.

Who would have a good voice for him? I think it would be gravely and deep.

That would be a ballsy choice for Rorschach. I think he would work well. Jason Patric tho?

Interesting...
I've been hearing and seeing on everyones dream cast in mostly all of them saying John Cusack is perfect for a part. I dont which part that is but i surely would cast him, just take a look at his great proformance in the recent "1408". This movie is turning into "Little Children 2: Watchmen"...lol

It will be interesting how they pull of Dr. Manhattan. Probably just a blue silver surfer type. I hope they don't screw this up. Watchmen is a classic of the graphic novel genre.

The more i think about it the more i like Jason Patric as Manhattan. He's a buff guy with a real calm voice and he's really good at playing a disinterested prick.

patrick wilson strikes me as being too young for the night Owl role.

Thomas Jane as the comedian could work but jane is usually pretty reserved in most roles.

Man.... really sounds like someone loved the film "Little Children", with 4 cast members up for roles in The Watchmen.

Haley can wear lifts. Rorschach does, after all. and yes, there's been a big online push for Cusack to play Dan Dreiberg, the second Nite-Owl.

Bleh, can't see this working in even a 3 hour movie. What difference is the casting really gonna' make when they cut out 50% of the source material.

STOP THIS MADNESS
WATCHMEN FANS! This could be the end of a masterpiece. The only beneficial aspect of creating this on film is to convert others to the comics/graphic novels. Other than that, i am in total support of not putting this masterpiece on film. I have nothing personally against Zack Snyder or comic book movies, but i personally believe this film cannot cover all the intellect alan moore put into this story. Everyone posting comments read the alan moore story 'watchmen' (including the editor of this article) and realize how much will be left out from the film, how a major studio can basically have the 'final say' in the film making process and how the main themes can be destroyed. This is not just any comic book, this is a political work of fiction that does not need to be disturbed by Warner Brothers. If anyone agrees with me, please do post and join: http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=2689486207

I think it's important to note that Alan Moore liked the script, and he's not exactly supportive of his work being adapted to the big screen (and with good reason). Still, he's also not going to see the movie, as he feels Watchmen is supposed to be read. As for myself, I'm cautiously optimistic about the movie.

A Little Children reunion is A-OK by me...fantastic movie. Though my reading of the book has yet to happen, I'm pining for Philip Baker Hall to play Nixon.

Big Watchmen fan, and I'd say this cast really look their parts, with Jude Law being a standout spot-on perfect.. he IS Ozymandias.

This is encouraging. For kicks, I'll second the opinion for PT Anderson directing.

David Caruso. And I really thought Gerard Butler was going to be the Comedian, since he worked with Snyder on 300. Oh well.
