Ice Cube Talks Welcoming Back "Kotter"
by Fred Topel | March 29, 2007
Discuss Article
Cedric the Entertainer did "The Honeymooners," Bernie Mac played Bosley in the second "Charlie's Angels," so now Ice Cube is taking a shot at "urbanizing" a classic TV show.

"I'm going to do a version of 'Welcome Back Kotter'," Cube said. "We're taking the name, we're taking the concept of the Sweathogs, a bunch of kids nobody wants to teach and seeing how intelligent and the things they do have to offer. We're taking that kind of feel and tailor making it for me."

Now a successful comic actor, and still a best selling rapper, Cube's Kotter will be funny, but not all laughs. "Dramedy. If you look at 'Welcome Back Kotter,' it was a lot of real social commentary in with the jokes. So we're going to do that too."

If Cube has his way, the original actors will appear in some capacity too. "We're trying to get cameos from everybody that was in the original somewhere in the movie."

But then, who could play a Barbarino today? "We got him. He's out there."

Try having a white actor portray a black character from a TV show or movie and there would be a big stink over it. Enough of this crap.

This just in.......
"Enter the Dragon" remake has just been cast with Carlos Mencia playing the lead role!!!! It is scheduled to be released in fall of 2008. Around the same time, an "Amadeus" remake is slated for release starring Jet Li!!!! These two will have major competition when a docu-war drama about Robert E Lee will be released. Samuel L. Jackson will star as the Confederate legend. The tagline for this film? "Long live the Confederacy, muthafucka!!!!"

Earth to Hollywood. Stop being PC. If a character was originally white, cast a white guy. If he was black, cast a black guy!!! You killed "The Honeymooners," and now you choose to kill "Welcome Back, Kotter?" That's all well and good but I say we have another remake of "Shaft" starring George Clooney. Let's see how well that gets recieved.........

An "Amadeus" remake is being released next year? Now they're updating "Welcome Back Kotter?" When will Hollywood quit doing these unecessary remakes? Come on already, make something new.

this reminds me of the Paul Mooney skit from Chappele's Show where he does a movie review of "The Last Samurai".

No Amadeus remake
Hehe, I was just being a smart ass to prove a point. But don't give up on the p.c. Hollywood execs who have nothing better to do than rewrap an old idea in a new lame ass coating.

Hey Mr. Cube, no one is welcoming your egocentric talentless ass back except the morons who would finance such a venture.

i didn't bother seeing the honeymooners, but i imagine it was the cinematic equivalent of a bad youtube video.-
welcome back kotter was one of, if not my favorite show when i was growing up. This is a crushing blow to my very soul. Mr cube, can't you instead make "barbershop 17" or something? perhaps make "3 fridays from last friday"?

I think in retaliation Travolta and Horshack should remake Boyz in the Hood. Just so Ice Cube knows how it feels.
