Eighteen year old Vince Smith is obsessed with disco, until his world turns upside down when he falls in love with an exotic punk, not realising that she is Joanna, his work mate in a solicitor's office. Meanwhile, Vince's father Harold passes his retirement in front of the television, being ignored by his still-glamorous wife Irene, who prefers the company of younger men. Then, one Christmas Day, Harold reveals an unlikely knack for performing miraculous tricks, which catapults him reluctantly into the limelight, and changes all their lives forever. -- © 2000 Intermedia Film Equities Ltd. There are some excellent digs at television's enduring capacity for trivialising serious issues.

This may still sound intriguing, but it's badly executed.

A predictable pudding of a love story surrounded by a lot of over-tweaked, overcooked nonsense.

Steiner and Hewitt couldn't decide which tale they wanted to tell -- Vince's or Harold's -- and so we get both, each one getting in the way of the other.
