Get an Eyeful of Benicio del Toro as The Wolfman!
Plus: Rick Baker talks about the making of the beast.
Joe Johnston's remake of The Wolfman won't be arriving in theaters until next year, but why wait 'til then to get a look at Benicio del Toro in all that makeup?
Renowned makeup artist Rick Baker -- most recently known as "the reason Norbit got an Oscar nomination" -- sat down for a chat with Entertainment Weekly recently, and he was kind enough to bring a pair of stills to give folks an idea of what to expect when the remake shows its claws. Observe:

Not bad, eh?
As it turns out, Baker's an entertaining interviewee, even without the stills -- he held forth on a number of Wolfman-related topics, including the challenges of turning his leading man into a werewolf ("he's practically the Wolfman already") to the toughest projects he's ever worked on ("I had to turn Eddie Murphy into a believable old Chinese man"). on Mar 20 2008 05:27 AM yeah if you can say you got Norbit an Oscar nom, thats like saying you got Rosie Odonnell to win the Boston marathon. phew... (Reply to this) |

on Mar 20 2008 05:29 AM More like saying Rosie Odonnell ran poorly in the Boston Marathon and everyone laughed about it. (Reply to this) |

on Mar 20 2008 05:32 AM Interesting to see that they're actually going with the "Wolfman" style of werewolf considering that's be out of style for decades what with all the "American Werewolf in London" and "The Howling" type things out there. The advantage to leaving some human in there is that it allows the man in the werewolf to act instead of just looks scary. (Reply to this) |

![]() on Mar 20 2008 06:22 AM This is an example of why makeup whenever possible is the way to go over CG crap that most people still can't get right. As far as Johnston doing this does that mean it'll be disneyed out jumanji, rocketeer crap or just plain Jurassic Park 3 crap. (Reply to this) |

on Mar 20 2008 09:02 AM Whoa, thats some great make-up. Baker is a genius with make-up. Del Toro looks intense and freaky looking. I think this might give this movie make-up nominee in 2 years at the oscars, (Reply to this) |

on Mar 20 2008 03:01 PM i thought it was going to be pictures of Benicio del Toro with the make up on. what a dissapointment. Just kidding he's one of my favorite actors. Can't wait for the movie to come out. (Reply to this) |

on Mar 24 2008 04:46 AM The makeup looks great! Baker is a true artist with this stuff. I appreciate this kind of effects work so much more than cgi. Look at American Werewolf, The Howling, etc. Practical makeup is much more realistic. I'm glad modern films like Underworld went with makeup (mostly) over cgi. It was much more effective, than say, Van Helsing, in which the effects looked terrible! (Reply to this) |
