Now it's up to his best buddies Slim (Richard T. Jones) and Mike (Omar Epps) to ease his pre-nuptial jitters and get him to the church on time--a task that inspires a trip down memory lane to their coming-of-age days in "The Wood" (Inglewood, California) during the 1980s. Reviews for The Wood
An across-the-board delight featuring a spot-on ensemble cast that treats the most awkward and embarrassing moments in the rites of passage with affectionate hilarity.
There's a lot of good interplay between the leads, and the flashback scenes successfully evoke the '80s.
When will Epps, who was in The Mod Squad, get a picture worthy of his obvious talent?
Nice, but lacks the substance it needs to make us feel as good as it wants us to.
Nelson hilariously and poignantly portrays Mike's journey into puberty.
It simply sits there, motionless, without any notable attributes to recommend, or that are even worth mentioning. It's unfortunate, but it's the truth.
With tender storytelling instincts and a keen ear for teenspeak, Famuyiwa flaunts a knack for feel-good comedy.
