David Goyer to Direct "Magneto"

He's had his hand in a whole bunch of superhero flicks, and you can now add another one on to the filmography of writer/director David S. Goyer. He'll be directing and (re-)writing the "Magneto" flick for Fox.

The first draft came from "Longest Yard" screenwriter Sheldon Turner, but I guess that's what happens when a director who's also a writer is brought on board. Looks like producers won't be needing Ian McKellen's services, since "Magneto" will focus on the eventual villain as a 20-something. Apparently we'll also get a good dose of a youthful Professor Xavier as well.

Both "Magneto" and "Wolverine" (from a screenplay by David Benioff, no director announced yet) are set to begin production later this year - -a year that's bound to prove pretty profitable for Marvel in general. ("Ghost Rider" already made some solid coin; "Spider-Man 3" is about to explode; and something tells me "Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer" is gonna be a big hit, too.)

David Goyer's previous screenplays include "Batman Begins" and the whole "Blade" series. He even directed the third one. Plus I think he's still got that "Flash" project on the back burner...

I'm not much of a DC guy, but all this X-men Rehash crap has been boring me to death.

I would really like to see The Flash before Magneto. It would be better to have some newer material then something they think that will put asses in the seats.

Yeah, I agree. I really want the Flash movie to come out, with Ryan Reynolds of course. I've always been a much bigger DC guy than a Marvel guy, but I did like the Xmen movies (except for the 3rd one where wolverine almost starts crying at the end... what a bitch. OH! And where was the damn Pheonix? Did anyone see a big flaming bird? Cause i sure didn't) Ok, sorry... but yeah, too many spin offs will just be too much. BRING ON THE FLASH!

Pshaw, as if Hollywood has always been known for original ideas. Most popular cinema is an adaptation of some sort. Fox would be foolish not to cash in on two well known characters from a franchise that's been proven to make money. It's a much safer investment.

How many things can David Goyer possibly do? He's already tied up as a writer on the Batman films, and now in the last several weeks he's been suggested to be attached to Green Arrow, The Flash and now Magneto.

He's a great writer so I'm happy that he's doing a re-write. But he better do a lot better at directing than he's shown us so far with Blade:Trinity. So I don't know how to feel about this, I guess I'll just have to watch it. The Invisible does look good, but not being screened is a bad sign.
