In their travels they come across an abandoned town strangely inhabited by only one old man and his daughter, Mike, who is played in a spirited turn by Anne Baxter. The two put a wrench in the plans of the outlaws, who were hoping to hide out in peace. As the sex-starved outlaws circle the rambunctious young woman, they also wonder if the bizarre duo could be sitting on a hidden gold mine. Richard Widmark is noteworthy as Dude, the only other outlaw bad enough to give Peck a run for his money. LaMar Trotti has fashioned a great script, based on a story by W.R. Burnett, that is similar in plot to that of Shakespeare's THE TEMPEST. [More]
