Featuring Bach's "Suite No.5 for Unaccompanied Cello," STRUGGLE FOR HOPE focuses on the efforts of cellist Yo-Yo Ma and Kabuki theatre master Tamasaburo Bando in finding the spirit of the Bach piece in traditional Japanese dance. The resulting music-dance combination is powerful in its universal beauty. The final installment, SIX GESTURES, features world-renowned ice dancing couple Jayne Torvill and Christopher Dean. Masters of their art-sport, Torvill and Dean collaborate with Yo-Yo Ma in an interpretation of Bach's Cello Suite No.6. The final creation is stunningly unique hybrid of classical music, ice skating, and dance which is dramatically recorded by filmmaker Patricia Rozema. [More]
