Nicolas Cage and Julianne Moore Decide on What's Next
by Scott Weinberg | December 07, 2004
Blog Article | Discuss Article
Variety reports that "Revolution Studios is in negotiations with Julianne Moore ("Boogie Nights," "The Forgotten") to play the female lead in 'Next' opposite Nicolas Cage ("The Rock," "National Treasure"). Cage is also attached as a producer, while Lee Tamahori ("Once Were Warriors," "Die Another Day") will direct the sci-fi thriller." Tamahori and company will be working from source material by well-admired (and oft-adapted) sci-fi genius Philip K. Dick, whose books and short stories have inspired movies such as "Blade Runner," "Minority Report," "Impostor," "Paycheck," and the upcoming "A Scanner Darkly" (courtesy of director Richard Linklater). "Next" tells the story of a man who can see into his own future has to avoid capture by a government organization and win the love of a woman who will be the mother of his child. Screenwriter Gary Goldman ("Big Trouble in Little China," "Navy SEALs") gets first crack at the screenplay, which could be pretty good news: Goldman also penned the cinematic adaptation of Dick's short story "We Can Remember It For You Wholesale" -- otherwise known as "Total Recall".
