Henson Company Plans to Look Into "The Dark Crystal" Again
Brian and Lisa Henson, children of the legendary Jim Henson and head honchos at the production company that bears his name, recently announced plans for "The Power of the Dark Crystal," which of course will be a sequel to the 1982 fantasy film "The Dark Crystal."
Screenwriter David Odell, who penned the original film as well as the first "Muppet Movie," is on board for the second spin, although a director has yet to be announced. (The original "Crystal" was co-directed by Jim Henson and Frank Oz.) According to Variety, the sequel "is set many years after the first film. Original heroes Jen and Kira are now king and queen, and must fight to save their kingdom when the crystal is once again split." Production on "The Power of the Dark Crystal" is set to begin later this year, with a release date scheduled for early 2007.

Twirlnhurl writes: on May 16 2005 03:41 PM Regardless of how good it is, I can't see it as being succesful. I think it has been far too long after the original for a sequel to have an audience. Dark Crystal has so much less popularity then the Muppets, so there is no way it will make much (look at how little the last few muppet movies made) (Reply to this) |

Durendal writes: on May 16 2005 11:37 PM Rot in hell, you greedy bastards Jim Henson said (and stressed very heavily) that there should never be a sequel/prequel to The Dark Crystal. It was supposed to stand on its own. But noooo, it looks like someone wants to milk the franchise some more. There will be a sequel, followed by a merchandising blitz. Jim is dead, so I guess they figure he wont care if they piss all over his grave. There's no way this sequel will be so much as a wart on the anus of the original. (Reply to this) |

suggsmar writes: on May 22 2005 10:19 AM I think ya'lls need to chill a little bit, cuase your skepticism of hollywood in general ( while somewhat diserved) i feel is causing you to make rash judgements on this. It could very well be very specatular from a different point of view. Plus i think alot of people discount the remarkable leaps that thier puppet crafting has come in recent years. Looking alone at shows such as Farscape or the Hitchhikers movie, and its really quite estounding. But that also means it could be a bit more expensive that one would think. The first movie was extremely original, but not nessessarily a great movie. I wouldn't hold it up in the ' holy ' realm of movies, even though it ranks amoungst my favorite movies. As long as a sequal is a decent movies, i really don't see how that will diminish what the first movie accomplished, nor sully the Henson name. (Reply to this) |

aj s. writes: on Jan 02 2009 11:04 AM yeah this movie really shouldn't have a sequel.. first jim didn't want another one, but i think that's b/c he was always looking to the next project.. and dark crystal was not a big box office success. i think in many ways (although it looks promsining as of today 2nd day of 2009) people are grasping at straws b/c we are all so eager to get back even a little of jim's magic, and the recent projects.. wreak of novelty, not magic (Reply to this) |
