Hoffman & Fishburne Join the "Impossible" Sequel
by Scott Weinberg | June 21, 2005
Blog Article | Discuss Article
The Hollywood Reporter brings some nifty casting news regarding the long-gestating second sequel to "Mission: Impossible." Laurence Fishburne ("The Matrix") and Philip Seymour Hoffman ("Boogie Nights") will co-star in "Mission: Impossible 3" alongside Tom Cruise ("War of the Worlds"), Ving Rhames ("Pulp Fiction"), and Keri Russell ("We Were Soldiers").

Mr. Fishburne plays a good guy; Hoffman a baddie. Director J.J. Abrams (TV's "Alias") plans to get the Paramount production underway next month.

holy shit, what would Phillip Seymour Hoffman want with this moive?? he always plays great roles, I would really only be interested in this movie if it were more like the first one, and a lot less loike the second.

Hey, look at the Batman franchise... The first one was good, the second ok, the 3rd sucked ass, while the most recent 4th was very good. Anything is possible if you've got a good director and a decent storyline.

You're an idiot. This most recent Batman film was #5, technically 6 if you count the Adam West version. Check your facts before posting on this site again.

As for Mission Impossible, Tom Cruise I guess is trying to alienate his fans by force feeding his life to us. I personally want to see Spielberg's take on H.G. Wells, not Cruise in a disaster flick.

MI3 will probably suck, but I have faith in Abrams if he can shut up Cruise long enough to get his own ideas on film.

ease up there...
It's so very easy to forget about the horrible Batman and Robin with George Clooney. I'm still trying to forget that I ever saw it. And besides, no one really counts the Adam west batman as an actual movie. Anything with Bat-shark repelant is clearly useless.... much like you, i'm afraid, since clearly, you are the pinacle of movie wisdom.

I do agree that MI3 will probably suck. This many casting changes and start dates is probably a clear indication of either a poor script or that no one really cares. But to quote you on another post... cruise probably got his way by "come to their offices, bring a couch, jump on it, then proceed to arm thrust you into oblivion."

I personaly thought the second film was a good deal better than the first and am looking forward to this one. Fishburne and Hoffman should be a great addition to the cast.

Personally, I think everyone is aware of how bad the second one was, and if I were in the position of directing this movie, I'd be thinking of ways to bring back the true Mission Impossible punch. I have high hopes that this one will at least surpass M.I.-2.

[pinnacle] of movie wisdom, no. Human being with common sense to double check my facts, yes. Thanks for quoting my other line. I personally thought it was funny. Tom Cruise is going downhill quickly.

Anybody else want an updated Goonies movie? I'm thinking a trilogy. If we are going to rehash old tv shows and old horror movies, how about something that everyone in my generation still holds as a guilty pleasure?

yeah, that was pretty funny. I could see Cruise sitting there threatening them. "ok, i'm going to arm thrust and i'm going to continue to arm thrust until you give me what i want!!! Then i'm going to be so happy it's going to kill you! But then i'll use my scientology skillz to bring you back to life!"

A goonies triology? Hmm.... i think i'm definitely for that one. Bring it on! Oh, maybe Shumacher could direct it and fuck that one up too. (like batman)
