DiCaprio's Shingle to Adapt Vonnegut's "Cat's Cradle"
by Scott Weinberg | July 06, 2005
Blog Article | Discuss Article
Variety reports that Leonardo DiCaprio's Appian Way production shingle will produce a big-screen rendition of the classic Kurt Vonnegut novel "Cat's Cradle." The father-son screenwriting duo of Jake & James Hart have earned adaptation duties.

For those unfamiliar with this (rather brilliant) book, the story's "an apocalyptic tale about the planet's ultimate fate and a race to recover the world's most dangerous substance, Ice-Nine, a new form of ice that freezes at room temperature."

It's assumed that WB will be the studio backing the project, but nothing's a done deal just yet. James Hart most recently adapted "Sahara" for Paramount, and he also worked on "Tuck Everlasting" for Disney.

_Cat's Cradle_ is my favorite Vonnegut book. Here's hoping they don't screw it up like most studios do with calssic scifi stories.

Vonnegut Rules...there are soo many amazing stories by him, but his humor has a hard time transfering to TV and MOVIES....hopefully James Hart understands and really gets his humor so that we can get a great Vonnegut adaptation...

Past Vonnegut movies have been terrible at best. Here' hoping they get this one right.

This could be an extremely entertaining movie, if the mood and humor of the book translates well to the big screen.

Not all Vonnegut film adaptations have been terrible. See Harrison Bergeron and Who Am I This Time? (which contains my all time favorite Christopher Walken performance).
