Owen Wilson Will Headline "Walter Mitty" for Paramount
by Scott Weinberg | July 13, 2005
Discuss Article
Owen Wilson ("Wedding Crashers") will play the lead role in Paramount's remake of "The Secret Life of Walter Mitty," says The Hollywood Reporter. "Wilson would star as the title character, a quintessential daydreamer whose vivid imagination allows him to escape from the mundane constraints of his ordinary life."

The original film, produced in 1947 and starring Danny Kaye ("The Court Jester"), has long been a topic of remake discussion, although with Wilson and director Mark Waters ("Mean Girls") on board, things look to be moving ahead quite smoothly.

Screenwriter Richard LaGravenese ("The Fisher King") based his screenplay more on the original 1939 story by James Thurber than on Norman Z. McLeod's big-screen adaptation.

ok...
I just had an awesome idea... tell me what you think. Let's remake a movie that just came out within the last year. No no... let's remake one that came out within the last 6 months. My vote is Star Wars: Episode 3. Of course we'll have to have hayden christiansen playing obi wan to keep his name alive... let's start production next month, say around noon. who's with me???

I know wjhat you're saying but to be honest to remake a film that is 60 years old isn't quite in the same ballpark with some of the other remakes that have been happening lately.

I never saw the original movie but I have read the story and for some reason, although I love Wilson, I pictured Mitty as a much older man (ie retired with nothing to do all day).
