"Transformers" Lay Claim to July 4th Weekend (2007, that is)
by Scott Weinberg | July 14, 2005
Discuss Article
ComingSoon.net kindly shares a press release from the fine filmmaking folks over at DreamWorks, and the short version is this: Michael Bay's "The Transformers" -- July 4th, 2007. Click on in for a closer look at the specifics...

"With 'Transformers' writers Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci taking time off from the project to go to Rome and start working on J.J. Abrams' "Mission: Impossible 3," starring Tom Cruise, DreamWorks and Paramount have moved the big screen robots adaptation back from November 17, 2006 to July 4, 2007.

The feature, based on the globally popular "Transformers" franchise, will be directed by Michael Bay ("The Island," "Armageddon"). Steven Spielberg ("War of the Worlds") is executive producing the film, with Lorenzo di Bonaventura ("Four Brothers"), Tom DeSanto ("X-Men," "X2: X-Men United") and Don Murphy ("The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen") serving as co-executive producers.

DreamWorks head of distribution Jim Tharp stated, "Under the direction of Michael Bay, and with Steven Spielberg executive producing, we know that "Transformers" is going to be the kind of explosive action movie that is perfect for the height of the summer movie season. By staking our claim on the 4th of July, 2007, we ensure that we not only have the time to make this movie the way it should be made, but also to build excitement and awareness leading up to its release.""

For some "Transformers" history and a few happy words from the president of Hasbro Toys, you should certainly visit CS.net for the entire press release.

Lol, true. Michael Bay is going to completely kill any possibility of a good movie in this project, as he always manages to do.

I should direct it
I would get Tara Reid, Christian Slater and Stephen Dorff. With a cast like that, how could I possibly fail?

from the writers of Mission Impossible 3????
Please leave my childhood memories alone!!!!!!

They are going to ruin them forever.

I hope, at least, that they make the movie about the original transformers, and not all the crap that's come out in the last 5 years.

The island has a 100% positive because there are about 6 reviews for it right now. That movie looks terrible, not to mention its a essentially a remake of a movie MST3K butchered a long time ago.

They have 2 years to make the Tranformer movie, how can they go wrong?
It's workin'!

Unlike X3, where they're rushing it, that movie is gonna blow hard.

I just hope that the cgi looks good cause there's gonna be a lot of it. If the cgi looks crap then the movie will fail. I think Bay will be able to do the movie justice also, just look at the producers and executive producers. There's some talented people already involved in this movie and they haven't even gotten a cast together yet.

Ooh yeah! I've been waiting for this for a long, long time. And I think Bay is a great choice. Cameron would be perfect.

Why Transformers?! Speilberg and Bay, don't waste your money and time on this. There's alot better anime out there. Why don't you film Neon Genesis Evangelion instead?

"Why don't you film Neon Genesis Evangelion instead?"

NO. Don't you DARE say that. Do you realize how badly they'd BUTCHER NGE? No one could pull of NGE in a single live-action movie. Its impossible. Of course, there isn't much to worry about since that kind of movie will never be made in Hollywood anyway. It wou ld just go way over the studios' heads, let alone mainstream audiences'.

As forTransformers... yeah Michael Bay is amongst the worst directors of Hollywood today, but come on, this is big CGI robots/cars fighting each other. How bad can it be if you have good VFX?

Isn't there already a project in the works for NGE live action movie, with WETA (Lord of the Rings) involved for the CGI and special effects ? I read about that many times on the internet (from reliable sources, not just fandom... ^_^). I agree that NGE is too vast to be comprised in just a movie. They would have to conceive it from the beginning as (at least) a trilogy... If the film is made, I hope some really good director gets it (not Bay, I really don't like his style). A live action of Macross or X would be great too, but for Hollywood to jump into the adaptation of many classics of animation or manga, maybe we'll have to wait to see the outcome of Cameron's adaptation of "Battle Angel". Still a long wait...

idea for a the teaser trailer
ok just imagine this for an early trailer, this would be kinda like a parody/spoof/homage on Fast and Furious, a suped up hot rod pulls up to a yellow VW bug at a stop light. Both cars rev up there engines and the drivers give some cold hard stares, so when the light turns green and both cars burn rubber down the road. Of course the Yellow vw bug wins (bumblebee). So the other car driver pulls up and is angry then his angry gangster passengers pull out guns to carjack the VW bug. The driver puts his hands up and get out the bug (Spike). Just as the gang members think they have the car, the little VW bug transforms right before everyones eyes and we hear the classic autobot transforming sound, and stands up as a 2 story tall robot, of course the gang members freak out and hop into their car and races away, while Spike and bumblebee stands there laughing away. And we end with the big bold title "THE TRANSFORMERS, JULY 2007"

If this movie is going to work at all, they almost have to ignore the "real world".
