Trailer Bulletin: V for Vendetta

Based upon the widely admired graphic novel by Alan Moore, "Vendetta" tells the story of a shadowy freedom fighter and the unlikely new ally he finds in a lovely young woman.

Natalie Portman is the gal, Hugo Weaving is the masked avenger, the Wachowski Brothers are the writer-producers. Longtime assistant director James McTeigue will make his directorial debut on "Vendetta," and his supporting cast includes the likes of Stephen Fry, Rupert Graves, Stephen Rea, and John Hurt.

"V for Vendetta" hits theaters on November 4th.

My only complaint about the teaser comes from the "From the Creators of The Matrix Trilogy" line that appears midway through the trailer. It seems as though there should be some acknowledgement given to the original graphic novel created by the amazingly brilliant author, Alan Moore. Considering how weakly received the second and third parts of The Matrix trilogy were received by the viewing public, that statement thrown in may be more a curse than a blessing. They may want to rethink that for the final trailer later on.

from what i have heard, Alan Moore did not want to be associated with the film when he saw how the film was shaping up. Personally I'm a bit dissapointed with the trailer. Even though he seems to be better than i expected, Hugo Weaving strikes me as an odd choice for V- always pictured Johnny Depp in the role, sort of in Jack Sparrow mode but much darker. The film also looked a bit too polished from the trailer- not dark and grim enough. My final complaint is the knives. they seemto be an unnecessary addition- there simply for a couple "ooh that's cool" moments. There was something wonderfully unsettling in the comic that came from V striking from the shadows using (to the best of my memory) just his hands. The violence was brutal and visceral rather than just flashy. Despite my litany of complaints i'm still holding out lots of hope for this one and will surely be there on opening day.

moore has accepted that none of his works will be done correctly on the big screen. he has refused to accept any royalties from any film related work as a result of his split from dc (due to censorship)

he now sends all proceeds from royalty checks to the creators who worked with him

as for v, he pulled his name from the project when the producer declared that he had given the film the thumbs up.

he hasnt seen the finished product, nor any of the rushes, nor does he wish to

I think it looks great, can't really see it doing great business though. Too weird for action lovers, too loud for a more mature crowd.

Smart move to release it in november though, rather than in the midst of blockbuster season.
