"Westworld" Remake Lands a Director
Director Tarsem Singh, best known for the bizarre Jennifer Lopez thriller "The Cell," has been tapped by WB and producer Jerry Weintraub to helm their remake of "Westworld," says Variety. Long discussed as a project for Arnold Schwarzenegger, the remake looks to get underway with or without The Governator.
"Could the sci-fi pic be the vehicle the Governator uses to come home to Hollywood?
Schwarzenegger's reps insist he's not involved with the project at this point. But it's certainly not a given that he won't be in "Westworld" should he decide not to seek re-election in next year's election or should he lose the race. His current terms ends in January 2007."
Screenwriters Michael Fenris and Michael Brancato were attached to pen the remake at one point; it's unknown if they'll still be on the case.
Written and directed by filmmaker/novelist Michael Crichton, the original "Westworld" dealt with futuristic amusement parks, dangerously defective robots, and some seriously unhappy customers.

Prosper761 writes: on Aug 12 2005 08:34 PM Ban All Remakes Even though it now has one of the most interesting directors working today, "West World" is yet another example of how Hollywood has completely lost any shred of creativity and originality it might once have had. Shame on Mr. Singh for attaching himself to what will undoubtedly prove to be yet another soul-less remake of a much-loved classic. Sure, the original "West World" is a B-movie, but it's also fun, original and funny as hell. I can hear screenwriters with original ideas all over America screaming in frustration... insanemansam5 writes: on Aug 14 2005 08:59 PM I actually think remaking west-world is a good idea. It had a unique concept that seemed great on paper but didn't materialize in film. I'll be interested to see what they do with a remake (Reply to this) |

SpikesInMySkull writes: on Aug 15 2005 04:48 AM You know they already did a remake of this movie... It was called Jurassic Park. And now they're making the 3rd unnessasary sequal to that, AND a remake of West World... That's kind of like making The Island, and then a remake of Logan's Run... or like making 28 Days Later, then a ramke of Dawn of The Dead, then a parody of Dawn of The Dead then a Sequal to the original Dawn of the Dead... Wow, I never looked at it that way... they really have run out of ideas... (Reply to this) |
