Mike Myers to Play Who? Keith Moon.
A long-gestating project between Roger Daltrey, Nigel Sinclair, and Mike Myers looks like it might be coming back to life sometime soon, according to Variety. The untitled film will focus on the rock band The Who ... and Mike Myers will be playing legendary drummer Keith Moon.
"Daltrey and Sinclair have worked on the Moon project on and off for about 10 years, but the film will be on a fast track and a director will be set shortly.
Myers previously flirted with the Moon project several years ago. At the time, he was so busy co-writing and playing four characters in "Austin Powers In Goldmember" that the project never quite came together. He is eager to make it happen now, sources said.
Moon's penchant for destroying drum sets while bandmate Pete Townshend smashed his guitars helped to forge the Who's rebellious image. Moon was just as wild offstage, living large and trashing hotel rooms and cars. The lunacy nearly overshadowed an instinctive power drumming skill that fueled the Who. The hard living caught up to Moon, who died in 1978."

kenporules writes: on Oct 02 2005 01:21 AM Sounds initially weird, but I really think Myers can pull it off. Sinclair has a pretty ugly movie history - I didn't even like either of his fresh movies particularly much - but fortunately he's just an executive producer. A good director and script could make this a decent flick - The Who sure deserves one. (Reply to this) |

MC. writes: on Oct 02 2005 09:02 AM This has a chance to be very good... or, like Studio 54, very bad. Myers loves this 70's stuff...it's in him...which made Austin Powers better than it should have been. But.... (Reply to this) |

But the who and keith moon really deserve a good movie. (Reply to this) |

cwade writes: on Oct 26 2007 06:52 AM In reply to this comment (#826324) Ditto that the Who and Moon deserve a great movie. As for Mike Myers: he can do the accent, he's perfect physically, he's even been good in the few dramatic roles he's had. One overiding characteristic of Keith Moon is that the man was FUNNY ! Mike Myers....... Who better ? (Reply to this) |

sneachtaball writes: on Nov 27 2007 07:56 AM this is gonna blow!!! mike myers will never be believable as Keith Moon...Jason Schwartzman (i think thats his name, the guy out of I HEART HUCKABEES)would be perfect - he is vertually identical physically, is young enough and dosen't bring any pre-conceived baggage to the table...PLEASE SEE SENSE - this has the potential to be a truly great rock n roll movie, his story is legendary - DON'T LET AUSTIN POWERS ANYWHERE NEAR THIS. KORONEKO writes: on Nov 23 2008 02:02 PM I completely agree in every single way that Jason Schwartzman would make an incredible Keith Moon. I also completely agree that the Who deserves a better director and a better actor, and Mike Meyers is all very well, but c'mon. It kills me to think of him as Keith, and that's not just because I'm a rabid Wholigan. Why is life so cruel when it comes to the film industry. This movie could be either incredible or really bad.... I just hope that Sinclair doesn't mess it up too bad. Pete, Roger, do something!!! (Reply to this) |

Spiderbash writes: on Nov 30 2008 02:24 PM Well The only thing i hate about this film is Mike Myers's age. He's 45 and Keith was 32 when he died. IT's not that big but still. (Reply to this) |
